Has anyone got the link to removing dip dim after fitting HIDs via a diode and relay, saw the instructions last week on here but can't find the link. Tried search but can't seem to find it. Thanks

Search, dip dim, title is wiring up the fogs to " flash" to save HID's. scroll down to find link near bottom. would put it up but useless with these things.

Just done this mod, didn't work, followed to the letter, double checked all connections, all that happened was with dipped HID,s on, stalk forward to put main beam on only 1 main beam bulb lit and HID,s off. disconnected all and put back to standard both main beams working O.K. But all now back as before, with dipped HID's on, switch to main beam and HID,s go off. Back to the drawing board !

Ground the HIDs to some where else on the chassis!

I think I am giving this thread the wrong title, having read other theads dip/dim refars to the dipped beam only coming on dim without the ignition on. The problem I have is the old one regards fitting HID's. What I need to do is when switching on my main beam I still want the dipped beam (HID's) to also stay on. As I have tried earthing the HID's to the body, and tried the mod with relay and diode as in the link Darkside put up. Any ideas please.

*thinks* ..wouldn´t that be down to the original relay used in the lighting system, i mean it utilizes the type of relay that switches the power from one lighting system ( dip ) to the other (main beam) when activated. The relay used when installing the HID´s is just to ensure they maintain a constant flow of electricity. so, I guess you´d have to bypass the original relay and hook up a completely different relay system, one that doesn´t just alternate between two points i.e one or the other, but never both.

you need to wire the main beams up like you would a pair of spotlights.my mates an auto leccy.you wont need a resistor either.he did mine using a relay and a few feet of wire.

sounds like the mod put up by darkside, do you have any instructions on how your mate wired them up ? are you talking about HID's ?

If you followed the same link as me then it should all work fine. Did it a couple of weeks ago. Is it the link which takes 7 pages to explain a simple 2 page job?

Did you put the diode the right way round?

Yes that sounds like the same one, only thing I had to use was a green relay instead of the blue one in the link, still a nissan one though, the numbers and pins all looked the same . If you managed to get the blue relay what car did it come off ?

tried that one first, still the same.
Try grounding it to the battery itself then as that's how mine are. When I have my HIDs on, and then turn on the high beam, the HIDs stay on as well.

Will give it a try, but an earth point on the chassis should be equal to the earth post of the battery, but willing to try anything now , it is beginning to annoy me .

Yeh, I read that too so assumed it was important.

I haven't done mine yet so I'm interested how this turns out.

Just looked at my green relay and realised the terminals 1 and 2 are the opposite way round from the picture of the blue relay in the thread :slap: . Spent a long time in the scappy looking for a blue relay the other day they may be quite rare. Anyway the thread says earth, and feed from other relay go to terminals 1 and 2 which look to be the swiching terminals if the top of the relay is anything to go by, so maybe I should try fitting the wires the other way round on my green relay. Car is in body shop at present so cant do anything until it's back. We will get there in the end

Just swapped my blue relay for a green one and everything works fine.

The terminals are identical.

Got mine from a scrap Micra.

True, but it never worked when I too well until I grounded the HIDs to the batteries...! Having said that I haven't done the mod, just plugged the + in the usual postive light cable and grounded the other to the battery.

Well finally admitted defeat on this , got car back from bodyshop, used blue relay wired as instructions and same as before, loww beam= HID,s ON, switch to high beam = HID,s go off and only 1 high beam bulb lights up . I give up :headvswal
