ignition power transister unit,the small finned box on the left (drivers side) cam cover on the front ;) common fault on early zeds-pre93. the problem usually starts with a misfire when hot then takes a complete shite and stops working completly

WOT WE TALKING?

It's a used series 2 with adapter cables and it's £110 plus delivery. Before anything, check the connectors for the PTU and CAS for corrosion/good contact :)

hi mate same problem as me mine was running lick crap i thot as it was stood for so long crap must have built up so took it for a run, it was missing and popping like hell also running very rich with black smoke out of engine with strong petty smell, i checked evrything at first plugs did have a spark but seemed i bit week to me, iv been told it could be ptu as well , do manual diagnostics as mine showed a few codes 13 coolant temp sensor , 21 ignition problem , 42 fuel temp sensor, 21 is either bad connection on ptu broken wire somewhere or ptu faulty!! iv ordered another ptu waiting for it should be here 2morrow if that solves mine i will let u know. good luck

ok i think im needing a new ptu!!

just an update i recived the ptu i ordered used but working one and gess what no luck still no spark at any plugs at all im totaly baffald this is p****ing me off now!! we need help guys

have you cleaned the CAS connections?

not recently only yday when i was checking if the plug had becom loose also opened up to check if the jwt chip had wiggled out of socket but everything was fine, cars been running fine last i used it was end of jan when i took it for an MOT it was running perfect then and after that its been in garage started it a few times but was running poorly thot it might just be crap and jst needs a good blast but when i took it for a retest 2 weeks ago the bloody thing wouldnt go over 30-40 mph and was popping and smokin all the wy there it jst wanted to switch off but i kept reving, when i got there let it stood for a few min then just switched off started it again and was realy rough then almost imediatly switched off (few secs job) when trying to give gas the revs would go up then just collapse and stall tried afm plug took it out and pluged it in again and car wouldnt do ewt, parked it up there whet back nxt day and it just turned over but just wouldnt fire up since that day it just does the same turns over but wont start done all usual tests sorted all codes out changed ptu and also check cas and cas seems to be working as injectors are clicking when u turn it, laso just checked when trying to fire car up cams are turning over so cam belts out of question as well afm seems to be working as when trying to start it the apexi unit is registering air comin in. cheers

mate me and u are in the same boat look best if we both work together as we have the same fault lets not both do the same things here, if im trying or doing one thing u do another that way we not wasting time on same thing, below is list of everything i have done you let me know what u have done as well please:-

 

changed ptu

cleaned both ptu connections with cleaner and wire brush also with some wheel cleaner acid stuff works good loll

cleaned cas connections

tested cas (working fine)

afm is registering on my apexi unit so i gess thats working but that wouldnt stop sparks any way.

cleaned afm connections

also cleaned all connections in sight and easy to get to.

changed coolant temp sensor

changed fuel temp sensor

checked ecu plug connection took it out and cleaned them also opened it up to check that chip was in its place.

checked fuel pump working fine

changed coil ignition relay green one

checked all fuses.

open oil cap to see if cams are moving on turning key and they are so belts fine.

 

thats it sums it up :rant: any ideas what else to check? any one?

STILL NEED HELP

are any of the plugs getting a spark? Remove one and earth it when turning over the engine, if it's sparking you'll get an arc

hi mate none of the plugs are sparking iv tried them all and iv tested coil packs as well with a test meter and they all seem fine, can all plugs go at same time? they only a year old with less than 600 miles on them? im realy struggling mate and not many peps are replying to my threads also theres no one up here who i could swap parts with to test. any help would be appreciated vijay. tnx

well I still think it's pointing to your CAS unit. It has to be PTU (which you've changed), ECU or CAS. It could be wiring somewhere also. Couldn't see all 6 plugs going at once.

When you are testing for a spark, are you earthing the threaded part of the plug onto some metal work on the motor ? Note bare metal and not painted or plastic.

hi mate well i have connected a earth wire direct from bat to plug threads still no luck iv tested the cas and injectors are clicking when u turn it!

Have you got a multimeter and know how to use it ?

yes i have one and know how to use it to certain extent but if your going to tell me to do something then il manage to do it i and good with an electronics.
