Not that it'll interest anyone all that much, but I bought that Laguna. Handing back my MK5 Astra in lieu of an allowance and some tax relief. The MK5 although being a new car had the 1.7 CDTi engine which is as noisey as a diesel engine could ever hope to be. I am actually looking forward to handing it back. As much is it's a reasonable car, on long distances, it's horrible. Suspension/seats are too hard, the engine is way too noisey.....and to be honest, fuel consumption isn't that good for an oil burner.

Anyway, got this Laguna (2000/W-reg) and must say, I'm impressed with it. It's the 1.8 16v RT Sport. Nice smooth engine, good road manners, comfy seats and it's quite a pretty looking car for a re-mobile. Drove it around a bit last night and the fuel consumption is very good for a petrol car.

good plan, how about a twins front bumper, some chrome 20" spinners and some sideskirts that make it look like its mounted a curb in a supermarket carpark? we all know si appreciates that sort of thing!

Cheers guys. Yeah, it is very tidy. Credit to the last owners. Did much of its mileage under fleet ownership. The car hasn't even been smoked in. Cigarette lighter hasn't had a single burn, seats are like new, engine is very smooth sounding. No doubt, I'll keep it up together as well.

There are a few external blemishes, of which I'm getting sorted next week before handing the Arsetra back.

Also need to remove those 'motorman/halfrauds' style door edge protectors as well at some point....and removal of all window stickers.

Si I don't know how you'll live with it. They are underpowered and generally underwelming in every department. The only thing they do well is keep you dry while getting you from A to B in the most un entertaining way. I'll wager inside a month you'll be looking to replace it.

Personally I'd be looking for a 2002 Mondeo 130 TDCi Ghia X. They are a tonking good motor for not much more money.

A, I don't care about its performance as long as it's smooth. It's a daily beater ffs!! LOL It's absolutely perfect for my needs. I don't need a SINGLE thing more out of a car. It's spacious, well equiped, cheap and in good condition. Anything else, I just couldn't give a monkey's ass about!!

B, I don't have the money for a 2002 Mondeo TDCi.

Looks totally mint inside :)

Will you be keeping it standard? :D LOL

I hope it is all you desire Si but, they were the exact same sentiments I expressed about my wonderfully good value for money purchase of a Dark blue Leguna 1.8 RT Sport.

Well when you do check one out as a daily drive. I always hated Mondeo's, but am really impressed with the 130 TDCi. I might even buy one

I can't afford a Mondeno TDCi ffs!!

I paid £1500 for that Laguna and all I really need it for is to haul my ass to and from work which is 5 miles in each direction! So not entirely bothered about it being less than an entertaining car to drive!

Mark's trying to fight a loosing battle! I buy a daily beater and don't care about it not being 'true sports car' with an exhilarating drive.....lol and he thinks I should buy something 3 times more expensive! good one Mark. ;)

It's like me going out to buy a Skoda Estelle and someone saying 'why not get a Polo 1.3, it's so much more of a better car etc. The two cars couldn't be any less important if they tried!

....says someone who repairs millions of Zeds!

I've had 3 French cars before and none of them were any grief. Quite a few on here have owned Lagunas. Most who have owned them on here have said they were very reliable. Dave's one hardly cost him anything.

dave only paid £350 for his. Im not wishing it on you mate but we all know french cars are the worst for problems. mainly electrical but hey perhaps you have got a good one.

It does look tidy but never judge a book by its cover. Look at it this way ! Why are they so cheap to buy and why are renaults on watchdog for faulty bits and bobs LOL

  • Author

Same with any mass produced cars. Vauxhall are in there more times than Renault. I've owned millions of those and never had a problem.

Hi,

I've owned one or two Ren@ults in the past and if the electrics don't go haywire (they did), the engine usually blows it's headgasket!:D

Nice and comfy to drive though!

Cheerz,

Jez.

I had a 2.0 8v rt laguna for 4 years, now the mrs has it, its done 50k miles in our possesion (total 160k) and is the most reliable car we have ever had.

I am looking for a new run about now. Its either going to be another laguna or a 406. Got my mind set on a diesel 406 estate with a tow bar.

Si My Laguna was as reliable as a Swiss Watch band I still see it around 2 years on so I don't thick you need worry.

I do 74 miles a day to work and back + any customer visits etc and I just found it utterly unengaging. It never let me down or did anything of note other than get out of shape in the wet even with good rubber, but it was Like watching paint dry.
