doing an oil change and hoping the 4 litres is enough.

 

I somehow have the feeling it needs more like 4.3 litres, but im invariably wrong :D

Wow how wierd is that, I was just about to post the very same question, so now i don't have to babble inainly and you don't have to read my convaluted and stupid post which has a load of bad spelling and is of no interest or has no point.

Never used a full 4l tub to get the oil to the top of the dipstick - seen a few where people have put the full 4l in though and overfilled it lol

very true.....they will still be a little oil in the engine..so slowly bit by bit ..let it rest a little and cheak ...

True, its just shy of 4 litres, but definatly more than 3.4

 

Never rely on a set figure. Fill the first 3 litres, leave it, check, top up..etc

I've always used 4 litres. I wonder if there is a difference in filters which could account for some of it.

3.4 is not enough! 3.8-4ltrs is perfect and have done around 500 oil changes, 3.4ltr wont even register.

You are checking the oil hot arent you.

 

You want it just above min on cold, which should be about half way between min and max when hot.

A bloke in work once asked me for some help. He wanted to know why his dipstick wasn't registering any oil after putting in TWO full 4.5 Litre bottles of oil . That was a very funny day. His car was like the Exxon Valdez :rofl:

yeh, iv seen the aftermarth from a garage whom used 6ltrs of oil in a 300zx, the poor car looked like it was shot by arnold swarzenegger oil seals were shot all over the place and leaking :headvswal
