Never heard of anyone having it done.

Are you sure it's not your prop centre bearing thats gone?

That's the usual cause of vibration.

So far......

1. Wheels balanced - no change

2. New Prop Bearing - no change

3. New drive shafts - no change

4. Gear box and rear diff mounts checked - appear OK

5. Tried a second hand prop shaft - got a vibration.

6. Original prop shaft "balanced" - made it worse.

7. Swapped prop shafts with another Zed - My Zed OK, Other Zed got vibration now.

8. Swapped back - My Zed got vibration, other Zed OK

So conclusion is that the first re-balance hasn't worked and the second hand one is also knackered. :headvswal

Options

1. Attempt another rebalance on the original

2. Find a third prop shaft.

All this being done by a garage who should know what they are doing.

It has take almost 3 months to get to this point and is becoming farcical.

Any advice would be most welcome

There used to be a specialist in Bonnybridge who made up propshafts, pto etc. sure they should be able to rebalance your propshaft.

after a quick search

Address: Unit 3, Bonnybridge Industrial Estate, Murnin Road, Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, FK4 2BW, UK

Telephone: (01324) 813287

Fax: (01324) 815806

worth giving them a call to see what they can/cant do

looking at whats already been done, have they checked the basics like look for a fooked tyre or wheel, they say theve balanced them but if they are out of shape you will get vibration, mabey worth swapping the wheels over just to check them

Wheels have been swapped front to back and side to side just to experiment - no change.

It was the Bonnybridge co. that attempted the first re-balance, so am looking for another.

Gearbox rear support. It needs renewing. But, before you buy another, take it off and pack hard rubber between the support main rubber and the frame. Get as much in there as you can. Put it back on and it should lift the prop into the correct alignment. You'll notice a reduction in the vibration but it'll be replaced by a coarse-ness as you'll be able to feel the drive.

But, you'll have at least found the culprit.

My 2p's worth.

Good luck

Jack

Having just been through this myself following a manual conversion, I can confirm that getting the prop balanced cured my vibration problems. You need someone who has the facility to do it dynamically. The place I took mine done a 1st class job, unfortunately for you they are based in Liverpool. Hope this helps.

Have they tried turning the two sections of the prop in relation to each other? Remove the 4 bolts, turn front half 90 degrees and put back together, test drive...

I will get them to try this. Thanks.

Any chance you can try a different set of wheels. I had a similar problem with my first Zed and went through the same scenario including rotating the propshaft, without any joy. Bought a new set of wheels and tyres, bugger me it was superb, smooth as silk.

Have the same problem with my Z and everything else has just about been ruled out. So think I will also be going for the one piece lighter weight prop, you say paul@swz sorted it for you, I need someone in the north england ideally, as in york. Anyone put me in touch with someone. Alan
