Im going to halfrauds tonight to pick some up for a change along with a filter.

Last lot of oil I bunged in was castrol magnatec.

I'm just wondering whether to put some fully synth in - bare in mind I dont thrash tits off the car, but boost is upped. Shall I just go for some 10/40 - I may go Castrol RS0?. (Also bear in mind I dont do winter driving in it :) )

P.S. I did search threads but there were that many out there stating different things I just wondered if anyone had any new comments.

I mean I know any semi/fully will protect car and stop it going bang, just wanted some good stuff. I know expensive is not always the way to go.

Cheers

From what I gathered. Use fully synth, if you boost it then perhaps 10 50w?

I have Mobil 1 15/50w in mine.

HTH

Id get a nissan filter beware halfords filter may not have a non return valve in.

One of the traders, opie oils will be able to help you out with a recommendation.

from what I recall, someone posted about some stupidly expensive oil that was no better in the engine than some good quality silkolene/castrol.

dont get me wrong - Im not on about buying morrisons own :)

But If I go by price alone, walk in and ask for the most expensive oil - it may not be right for my engine.

on another note - arent the halfords filters ok now? I heard about that valve but thought it was sorted?

Local nissan dealerships dont have any filters in and I was doing it tonight.... :(

Get a Champion filter from Halfords (C109) - they're fine.

Oil is like tyres and brakes in my opinion - they can't be too good. However, there are diminishing returns. You do pay 'extra' for big names brands with lots of advertising, but you can be reasonably sure the product is good. It is possible to strike a balance and get a good quality oil from a non-high street retailer like your local motor factor. So what's £30 in Halfords could be £22 at the motor factor etc. I use Morris 10w50 fully synth. Even the fussy Oilman admitted it was a good spec.

Personally would not use magnatec, any good quality fully synthetic oil is preferable, and there are some very reasonably priced ones out there!

Righto - just got some Castrol :(

Got some Castrol Edge 0w/40 @ £37.99 for 4 litres!!!!

Their blurb say its the best synthetic oil they do for any high performance engine so it cant be that bad.........

I still would've prefered millers oil tho'
