Why - Oh - why, does my engine cut for a second?

Gents,

I need advice once again!

My 92 import has been mis behaving for a while now, but this afternoons fun and games have kinda caused me to take action and get it fixed!

Occasionally, normally whilst the engine is still cold (ish) and under hard acceleration the engine cuts out momentarily (its definately electrical). Today it even back fired through the intake. Not good. The last straw was powersliding off a roundabout today (sunny day - roof off etc etc..) and having the engine cut out, which then caused the car to dart unexpectedly (at least for the other drivers!) across both lanes off the roundabout and back again. Hmmm.

So how bout it doctor, whats the prognosis?

Incidentally, the car is allegedly standard, with the exception of large bore tail pipes. I believe the rest of the system is standard, albeit with a slight blow on one side of the rear box. I cant beleive that this would upset the 02 sensors but I will stand corrected!

PS if anyone has a decent aftermaket exhaust for sale I could be interested...!

Mark,

Something like this is quite hard to diagnose unless someone here has had very similar symptoms and can give you the answer.

I would give Darren a call and organise a test drive with consult plugged in to see what it logs when this happens.

This will savr you alot of time and painfil guessing!!

Check the connector of the temp-sensor.

I had similar problems with my NA and cleaning the connector with some contact-cleaner solved the problem for me.

You also might want to check the ECU for any error-codes and like Steve says, with a consult you can probably pinpoint the problem even more precise.

Mark,

Check out the 'good experience' forum about Darren. He works at my local Ancaster Nissan dealer and is the workshop manager / technician.

His mobile 0797 1193867 and he will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi, I had the same problem after a new sigma cat 1 alarm was fitted. The plonkas who fitted it (yet to be told in the pissed off dept) moved the main fues - relay houseing (passenger side frount of bonnet!) and thus ballsing up all the contacts! - Had some free advice from me main man at Nissan in MK , buy a comfy chair, a few beers, take all the relays & fuses out 1 at a time clean with a fine scotch bright, check all connections as the actual wires tend to go a bit brittle with the heat of the engine compartment after about 10+ years! BE CAREFULL

Did mine, big misfire, stalling, and sudden power purge problems all solved.

By the way the car Z's seem to like going sideways anyway - you'll get used to

it :-o :-)))
