Hi all, still having probs with speed signal i.e they`re ain`t one! speedo is fine sensor is fine, wiring is fine as all works when out of car according to the mechanic,is it possible that the drive gear on the gearbox shaft has worked loose? I notice it`s locked/held in place via a steel ball,do these break at all leading to the gear spinning on the shaft itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

so, how exactly did your mechanic check the wiring out of the car ? ;)

how and where did he check the speed signal ?

This because the speed signal at the ECU comes from the speedo...not the sensor.

the actual speed sensor signal is an AC voltage that increases with speed and can be measured at the back of the speedo.

in 8 out of 10 cases the problem is caused by the speedo cluster (either brittle solder joints or electronic component failure) and not the sensor or wiring.

Try a different (working) cluster in your car and see if that fixes the problem.

Turn you ignition on with the speed sensor attched to something like a battery drill. If you speedo goes it rules out a bit.

thanks for the replies, have a signal at the head when the sensors out of the car and running off a drill but put it in the box and ziltch, which seems to point to something mechanical. looking in the manual we noticed the drive gear for the sensor is held in place via a steel ball/plunger? and thought maybe this is shot leading to the gear spinning on the shaft hence not turning the sensor gonna check it myself at the weekend just to make sure as this was intermittant before

Is it the correct sender for the car/gearbox? The pinion gear size is different across models and may not be contacting the drive gear....

Either solder the wires or use bullet connectors. Some auto factors will also sell suitable 2 pin connectors
