Well I'm now nearly £700 lighter after having to replace the gearbox on my Zed. Started making a whining noise a while ago which progressively got louder and then developed a rattle, car sounded like a milkfloat!
Took it to the garage with an idea it may have been the lay shaft bearig, turns out the prop had fouled the bush at the back of the box and caused it too slowley leak the gearbox oil all over the road. Which meant it was empty and I actually managed to melt first and second!
Big learning point there, alway check your gearbox oil. My fault I know but I have only had it a year.
Any way had a replacemet box fitted and coughed up the cash, was feeling preety sh*t about the whole situation and OH MY GOD drove the car home! What a difference! Car pulls so much more strongly now in first too gears it's amazing. And twatting an E55 AMG away from the lights only broadened my smile  Sounds so much quieter now I reckon the problem was probably there whenI bought it.
So although I may be living like a hermit for a while I'd say it's a fair trade off.
