The Mrs has asked for one and I know nothing about them. Has anyone ever owned/driven one?

 

Are they any good?

 

I suggested a mx5 instead, but she is Italian and would rather a fwd. She has done a lot of research... but I thought I would run it by you guys before I spend any cash!

I've got a Fiat Punto and it's really good, I've had no problems at all with it. It's a great run about, I don't know if anyone else has had any problems with fiat's but the one I've gots brill.

Has she thought about the Alfa GTV? IIRC, the Barchetta is only a 1.8 and of course, LHD only.

 

I had a black 1998 Barchetta last year.. It was a fantastic little car, and the easiest left hand drive car I have ever driven.. Never had any problems with it, all I felt the need to do was fit a nice set of 16's.. More style than an MX5, although they are great little cars too.

When it came to selling it, it went in 2 days.. I had people fighting over it :)

 

I wouldn't hesitate in buying another.

Always thought of buying one myself, a true bargain new and used but depreciate like hell :(

OK - she went to a dealer today and they had a barchetta, GTV Spider and an MGF!

 

Now she is more confused than ever!

 

Anyone know anything about them? How would you rank them? good and bad points for them plz..

barchetta ( little boat ) is a great little car but for every day use and practicality i would opt for the GTV ....especially if you are going to use it as well , .....barchetta's and Mx5's seem to be owned mainly by females with the occasional male pilot , but the GTV is unisex i supose , just my opinion , no offence meant gumball ..leave the MG alone ..underpowered and heavy and bad brakes the one i had on loan while my car was in being repaired was a dog ...........

Then you really need something that you don't mind driving for when your Zed is off the road. Personally I wouldn't touch the Alfa. They are great to drive, but unreliable and expensive to maintain.

 

Get her a topless Z. They are NA but plenty of go and mega reliable. They are easy to tweek extra ponys out of em as well. Have to say though out of all the Roadsters My favourite is the Honda S2000. (Have even thought about getting one instead of the Z) followed by the MX5.

Chhers Mark, but there are no convertable zeds for sale anywhere, and the S2000 is out of my budget.
