ok, so I am feeling pretty confident driving zed... I have had many high performance rwd cars of various capabilities, and I do a few track days each year, but...................

I would like to get some one on one tuition in MY car... not one of these gift experience days.

Does anyone know of a company that does that sort of teaching?

I have wanted to take my car on a skid pan for ages, phoned round a few places but none would let me use my own car

i will make sum fone calls for you ok guys, im a close protection and advanced driver myself, i am currently doing my ADI whilst i am out here in baghdad, my mates that are already ADI can do this stuff for you and i think one or two of them actually have there own company doing this stuff.

I have approached Prodrive in the past who do some special tuition for various high performance owners clubs (I recently went with the Lambo owners club). It works out to be quite expensive and they are quite picky about what cars they allow on their property (ie state of repair, etc)

It's a good idea and I'll definitely come along if this gets off the ground.

Cheerio!

I have a mate who did a course with ridedrive.co.uk and he was well impressed with them. Only thing was that the training was on public roads. They reckoned that was the best place to learn the new skills because thats where you would be using them.

I just had a look on the net though and these guys sound quite good

Just to pile on I did the pro-drive weekend when i bought my missus her RX8 :) did not realise it was part of the purchase price so have no idea of the stand alone cost. I know that various manufacturers use them:- Bentley, Ferrari, Ford when you buy a performance model you are offered it as an add-on or in the RX8 case in with the purchase price.

I thought it was good because of mix:- High speed track, handling circuit (the one they use to develop their handling packages), Skid pan and Advanced road session.

I think they are picky because not only does the car have to be in top nick, (otherwise they would have to be scrutineering ever car) but I could not believe the spectrum of 'joe public' that came along. It totally changed my opinions. Up until that point I thought that anyone who bought a performance orientated car would be broadly similar in background and i guess ability. Ho wrong was I. I used to race both cars and bikes starting in karts when i was little so I have been driving things on-the-limit and for daily transport most of my adult life. What I could not believe was how the pro-drive weekend revealed how bad some folks are at driving. It was scary. you would think that people buying RX8's (which lets face it is a fairly focussed sports car) were 'drivers'............oooooooooo no!

Some idiots complained at the end saying that they had no idea it would cost them so much in petrol and made the edges of their tyres go "bobbly and wear down so much!"

I kid you not........

I would wish you well with a Z focussed session but I fear it may teach us too much about who is at the wheel of so many Z's !!!!

Seriously the best value for money for me was when I took the Z to the nurburgring:-

1. On the way watch unlimited autobahn savvy germans drive (roadcraft)

2. Take 3 laps on my own (current state)

3. Hire a ring-meister to drive with me and give me tips......(future state)

4. Extra laps on my own.

Best money I ever spent.

Best

I did organise a club discount with the Advanced Driving Institute.

As of yet however I have not heard anything from MAC1 about it.

Not sure if it is what you are after but it is apparently worth while.

The thread for it is here.

Hope it helps.

dont forget guys its all ok doing a weekend course or sumthing like that, but if your not using it or doing it every day, you will loose the skill very quickly, this is why we as body guards do driver training every 2 weeks, also do it every day whilst we are out here in iraq, i have seen alot of great drivers over here take a month off and come back into the driving seat and forget how to do the cone test in reverse. I know most of you will do it for abit of fun which is great, but its alot of money for sumthing your not even gunna use. All ppl need to know is the limit line on the road and how to read the road, if you can do them 2 things whilst driving fast or slow, you WILL be a good driver.

Hi Guys

As Karl said only through practise can you hone your skills. i still believe driving skill days are great insight into what you need to know. it is up to you to practise waht they teach. in a safe location. i recently got invited to a Palmer Audi Sport day. it was the best driving experience ever!!

They do special 1 day events, where a race driver, drives you around their track in some hight performance car, teach you the basics. You then have a go for a bit. Then they will take you out in your car teach you again. Then allow you to drive your car for as long as you like, or your car can withstand for the day. Some of the tracks are in the middle of an open area so if you span off you could not hit anything anyway.

The only problem is that generally road cars cannot withstand a contant pounding on a track so be warned. Also the guys who teach you a MAD!! They will contantly push you to the limit, which is brilliant. Well worth the money.

I can organise something in an empty, damp pub car park.

I'll show you some moves in me Hillman Imp. ;)

£20 a head.

£20 a head.
I'm not sure I want head from you!

But £20 is good value :wack:

BookaTrack have track driving tutors at their events, £20 for 20 mins and they give you a huge earbashing lol :p

Get to a track day and pay for the tuition :)

EDIT: In your own car obviously
