Hi,

I've got a problem with my 1990 300zx NA manual.

If I'm in 4th or 5th gear at low revs (2000) and then I put my foot down to accelerate slightly the revs increase quickly upto the redline if I keep my foot down, but I don't get much faster. At first I thought I was wheel spinning but the roads were dry today and it's still happening. When I take my foot off the accelerator the revs drop back down and the car lurges forward a bit, in fact it feels like I'm driving an automatic.

Does anyone know what this may be and how to fix it?

I hope someone can help.

Cheers,

Andy

sounds like time for a new clutch

Hey Craig & Warren. I see you are both flat out working hard!

Here's my £0.02

I think your clutch is well on the way out.

;-) BTW can you diagnose this one.......

When I put my foot down in 4th & 5th it feels like my eyes are getting pushed in and blurred vision starts to set in :-)

Keep up the good works guys.

Steve

Would you say that this is pretty definite then? Why doesn't it happen in lower gears?

Any idea of how much a new clutch will set me back? Is fitting one a big job?

Will the UK part fit my Jap Z (90 NA 2 seater)?

Thanks for the quick responses.

Cheers,

Andy

lol - Thanks dr craig

The clutch is under much more load from the engine in the higher gears so this is where you will first notice a problem.

Steve

well sounds like im getting a bit smarter lol

it only really shows intitially in the higher gears as the torque load on the clutch is much higher (i stand to be corrected)

Yep. Its your clutch i`m afraid. As Steve points out, when your in 4th and 5th you are placing much more load on the clutch which is why it is slipping. Take it easy on her.

May have you a good deal on a clutch as I bloody need a new one aswell.

Tooley, that's only because you don't have a clutch - lol

I think you would go through them like rear tyres ;-)

Thanks for the responses, am I doing any other damage by driving around at the moment? Any idea of roughly how long it'll last (hours, days, weeks)?

your are just buggering up the clutch more i think, so until it goes for good and you get stranded on the m25 or something, as your car is a non turbo i would imagine you dont need a fancy clutch so it should not set you back to much, but get it done soon, and you can enjoy your z again.

Can anyone recommend a particular clutch that I should order or should I go to my local Nissan dealer (who never knows anything about my 2 seat non-turbo)? Where else can I go?

Cheers,

Andy

http://www.courtesyparts.com/ they are in the states but good starting point.

good luck

Will the UK part that I've been quoted at around 305 quid fit my Jap import 300 ZX short wheel base NA?

Cheers,

Andy

it should fit the only difference with your car is the chassis. it shorter than ours

you wouldn't credit it..i read this string went out for half an hour i'am in 4th overtaking a mere mortal driver and bam rev counter kicks over but no power!!!! i did have a feeling my clutch was on the way out cos while driving in heavy traffic i could smell it burning and every now and then i could hear the engine surge.

time for the upgrade me thinks (any suggestions?)

the dreaded forum curse strikes again he he

i use a dule centerforce clutch and it is really good i have no probs with it.

how much did you part with for the dual centerforce clutch ???

i baught mine from tdi just of the a13 (i think) it cost me £550.00 (probably a little expensive) but it is a really cool clutch - have a look at the website

http://www.centerforce.com/

good luck

Expect to pay around 400-00 for the centreforce. I will be having one.

I am awaiting details of the stock situation.

I would like to drop an unfounded bombshell here!!

Without prejudice!!

I've have read many complaints from U.S owners about the centerforce clutch not lasting very long.

It is possible that an incorrect fitment may be the cause of most of these complaints but the fact is that this clutch has been the basis of than a few discussions.

Maybe it's just the extra power from the twinturbo model.

I would go for the RPS instead and I'm not saying that just becasue I have one ;-)

Steve

well i also heard that but i have one and it is the dogs ganoonies as far as im concerned it really is a nice cluth (and im not saying that cause i have one lol ) actually i am saying that with pregudice he he he

Thought that one would get a response Warren ;-)

When you getting your Z back?

Steve
