Hi All,

Is this worth doing, i.e from America or are the shipping costs too much??.

I've been looking at US websites but haven't found one yet that ships to UK. Any ideas?/.

depends on how much of a saving your making compared to the UK market. Youll get stung with things like import duty etc. There are some ways of getting around this, but there is still a chance of getting caught out and having to pay the duty.

If your going to do it, the best way is to select a all the things you want, and then have the seler to mark the package as "not for retail, test products contained within". I think there is some policy that it the goods arent going to be sold and there for RandD purposes you dont get stunk for the import duty, which should save you a bit of money.

With regards to actual companies that ship to the uk, sorry mate cant help you there as ive never imported stuff from the states, only Jap land

hope this helps

There is a part somewhere (can't find at mo) that says you as the buyer are responsible for what is put on the import form.

I have just had a form from parcel force wanting another £120 on an item that cost $815 (£430ish). £91 of that is VAT. Now I think thatthey have charged VAT on the postage as well $300 plus £15 import duty and a £13.50 clearance fee from parcel force.

It still works out slightly cheaper but not as cheap as you might first think.

Hope this helps.

Having bought quite a few items fom the states id say go for it.customs cant examine every package and apply import duty.some you win some you dont.Even when i have paid import its still cheaper.Youll find most us companies are only to happy to ship here.Z1 are very reasonable.I find it best to phone from my mobile. It really isnt as dear as youd imagine. For a pair of turbos i paid £90 shipping and £130 duty and i still saved £400 on what i was quoted here. The yanks do like to give good service to their customers and you will get a "Have a nice day" after you place an order.

When importing you need to allow for an average plusage of approx 21%.

Even goods described as warranty replacement ARE subject to duties, everything has a value, the item and the postage paid, so you pay duties/taxes and VAT on all these, plus sometimes a fee to the handler/courier company which is also vatable!

You can devalue the goods BUT should the parcel go missing or be damaged, you can only claim the amount specified on the paperwork, so beware.

I've been importing every week for a few years now and am still yet to find a gauranteed way of beating the system. ;)

Most US suppliers will make goods at a lot less their value meaning you pay less import Tax, but should it be lost then you would only be insures for that amount.

However if you pay by Visa then they are insured via thr Visa card.

http://www.z1motorsport.com/index.php http://www.amzperformance.com/z32 and http://www.courtesyparts.com all ship to the UK. They will all offer shipping Vai Feddex or UPS. UPS have never lost anything I've ordered and are the quickest. Feddex loose about half your stuff for at least 2 weeks, but it will eventually get there.
