Might be handing my company car back soon as I'll benefit more from an extra £350 in my pay packet than I will do having a new car.

If all goes to plan, going to be looking at a number of cars. Probably a Vauxhall Calibra (8v)...late version. I know what you all think...Vauxhall rubbish. But the last production ones came with air con etc and the 8v engine can be maintained with a knife and fork....and I know Vauxhalls inside out. The 2.0 8v is a reliable a robust engine and parts are cheap.

The other car I'm looking at, is an Audi Coupe (K/L/M reg...with aircon). I know practically nothing about them. I'd more than likely go for the 2.0 16v model as I'll have no use for the 2.6 V6.

I'd prefer to have one of these anyway. Attractive car that can be had for absolute peanuts.

Just want people's opinions on them. Those that have driven them/owned them/worked on them etc

i had the cav 2.0 8v and the engine was bomb proof. my brother had calibras for years from th 2.0 8v to the 2.0 turbo.

i would go for the ecotech 2.0 16v as its a very underatted engine my bros

last one was one and it was really nice. came with cream leather interior handled reaaly well too. i know nothing about audi's apart they are built really well.

calibras are becoming very chavvy now tho mate and too many cocks are buying them shame really as it held the lowest coefficient of drag for years only to be beaten by the bmw 8 series.

I'd stick with the 2.0 8v if I was to get one. The 8vs are cheaper and they are much easier to service and less bits to go wrong. Just as smooth as the X20XEV.

MY BROTHER HAD 2 AUDI COUPE'S BUD, HE HAD NO END OF PROBLEMS WITH EM.

I have had 3 of em, personally would go for the 2.3 5cy version as the body is heavy for the smaller engines, never had any probs with mine and very easy to work on, my favourite was the 20v quattro i had.

hmmm dribble 20v quattro! my pops owned a 10v ur quattro when i was a nipper and it was an awesome machine, generally very good no major probs. bags of road presence and imo a very pretty car.

much the same as this 1... though i assume si that you mean the later shape coz these babies are goin up in value! expect to pay over well 10k for a 100k mile 20v model :)

Im a Bit of a closet fan of the Audi Coupe. Nice solid coupe, with a strong image.

It would of been pricey on the maintenance compared to the Vauxhall 5 years ago, but VAG prices have come down a lot, and there are a lot of independent part suppliers - eg. GSF Car Parts.

Abosultey detest the Calibra Im afraid for many reason, but not least for its very "chavvy" image.

Si, See my previous post in the cars for sale section. Massive place in my heart for these cars. I sold my Standard Audi 80' coupe 1.8 a while ago and it was the best and most reliable car i ever owned -Fact. Obviously the forerunner to the model pictured in your post, but similar in engineering quality, design and reliability. These motors are literally bomb proof, and despite this being a Nissan forum, i can honestly say that i believe that audi engineering is second to none. Even down to things on the car like the way the door seals are doubled up to provide better seal and noise reduction on my 1986 coupe made it a joy to maintain.

I sold mine to another Z owner on the forum before Chrimbo as the mrs couldn't park her car on the drive with me having the Z, the Audi and a golf so i reluctantly sold the audi  Still i've asked the guy to give me 1st dibs on it if he has enough of it as they are brilliant cars. If i'd have had the time i'd have dropped a TDi engine into it and ditched the golf, but economy and time won over!
