Why is it that so many people get these two words confused? They mean two totally different things.

It's like getting red and read muddled up.

Even the Americans can distinguish between the two. ;) Never see this problem over on the US forum.

It doesnt really bother me as such but I do think people should be able to read and right properly by the time they leave school. (I am dyslexic and still make a better job of it than many)

I think everyone should be able to read and write correctly too, but this is a social forum about nice cars and its members - not a job interview or english lesson.

And another one that really bugs me ....

Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.

I use those a lot...

Another common one that really pisses me off is:

"Can I lend a tenner?" or "Will you borrow me £20" :slap:

It's can I borrow or will you lend me FFS!

It's only Northerners who say that though. Southerners probably just steal it out your wallett ! ;)

And that's just for a cup of coffee!!! :D

Too right about borrow and lend. People must think I'm a twat when I say it but if someone says 'can I lend a tenner' to me I always say 'ooh yes please'.

another annoying one that a lot of people use on here is women/woman. i saw A lovely women today, or i see 5 woman today. ffs, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. another one, ready, who LEARNED you to spell. lol.

LOL nice one

Now here is a can or worms.

How do you correctly pronounce the letter

H

Is it

ha - y - ch

or

a - ch

I use the second as I'm sure thats correct English. The first way is how the gutter snipes say it ;)

"Aitch" is correct.

There is no "H" sound at the start. Which is ironic since most people from London or the Thames Estuary drop their "Hs" from every word (eg "ospi'al - hospital with the "T" dropped as well ;) ), yet pronounce the letter "H" as "Haych"

I think Si and I should head the national campaign to bring back proper English....... ;)

Richard :slap:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

"Aitch" is correct.

So drop the H when you say H.

Thats where I have been going wrong.
