Hi Guys,

Is there any way of checking to see if the head gasket has gone, without stripping the engine down?

Looking at the oil on the dipstick, it did not appear to have any water in it,

would the easyest way be to just drain all the oil from the engine sump for inspection?

cheers

Thanks, any idea where i can get a chem kit from to check the water? and do you know how much they are?

use a cylinder compression tester mate, £15 from any good motor factor

there wont be oil in the water unless they are mixing, head gasket can fail without them mixing, it depends where its failed.

Thank's fellas, will try this tomorrow.

Dont want to have a sick zed!!!

Tester kits can be bought for about £30. Think I saw one on ebay last week...

Thanks again for your help guys,

Ithink i have found the problem and its not the head gasket (thank god!!) The engine oil did not look as though it was emulsifying, and no trace of oil in the water. what i did find was a small hose at the back of the engine that seems to be leaking at different times, so i think that is where i am loosing water.

Hose changing at the weekend i think!!
