whats best?

a front mount, like the ones on ebay for around 300 quid like this

or

Aluminium side mounts

for the same money, like these?

if it was your money what would you go for?

It's like computors and computor hardware. You have to descide first what you want then if what you have can deal with it, what it can Handle and want to achieve. Then you need to do your research and get whats right for your needs. you carn't just bolt this on or slap bigger turbo's on and expect to have more power for long.

I will say in my opinion Standard turbo's and upgraded T25's will never warrent FMIC. Also my opinion after lots of research that Good quality SMIC (providing they are ducted properly will work well up to 900BHP, but front mounts can be awesome once your pushing 600 FWHP.

i think its just down to personal choice really if they're both ducted properly i cant see why it would make a difference, IMO front mounts look the nuts but if they're poor quality then it will probably bring the power down or even cause damage due to not cooling the air properly

Generally the volume of the front mounts is too great for the volume of air that standard or uprated T25's can pull. So the presure drop means less power than keeping OEM side mounts.

No, wrong, because once that volume is filled thats it! Have you looked at the core of a stock IC??? The restriction is incredible, so a front mount WILL give a performance increase on stock tubs!

I prefere Rear Mount to front Mount sometimes :D

Its Friday and mines a Guiness Please ;)

with the increased volume of air movement the front mount may suffer from a miniscule amount of extra lag plus at the higher rpm's the standard tubs may suffer pressure drop to a higher degree but not much and a decent boost controller should combat this

i think its all about compromise isnt it? SM's will always be more efficient on our cars due to the plumbing, less volume of air to fill will give better performance as it will come on boost quicker. FM's are still going to cool the air better & have less restriction over stocks anyway.

TT net had a good write with dyno figures up proving that uprated SMIC's did indeed give a performance increase over FMIC's

cant remember exact figures & TBH in the real world you prob wouldnt notice the difference!! but SM's came out top ;)

i agree smic's seem to perform better but fmic just look so

OK just explain to me why the Nissan Backed Steve Hillen 300ZX GT Le Mans cars (The very car used on Retro620ti's Sig) had SMIC if FMIC's are so good.

Why also did the Nissan 390 gt Have side mounts. I mean at £850 Nissans Technological master piece had side mounts, Why if FMIC's are so good and not just Chavtastic bling. Remember Both these cars threw the rule and constraints of a standard road going Z away. They could have inco-operate what ever configuration they wished Yet they still went for SMIC's.

IMHO I would not fit a front mount if I was given one for free LOL

With the VG30dett SM with good ducting is the way to go

One of the Jap car mags did a test on cheap FMIC compared to standard and a good FMIC.

The cheap FM was not as good as the standard cooler. On a Scooby, but the point is valid.

Ah i always fancied a big meaty central cooler. So side ones are the best eh.
