Pulsar gti-r engine in a zed?

I dont have a TT z just the 3l v6. As far as im aware its 222hp as standard. Two of my m8s have got gti-rs pushing out 280-300hp and they are very scary cars to be in. Pulsars are VERY fast. I was wondering if people have any opinion on fitting a 2litre 300bhp turbo gti-r engine in a zed. Would it still be faster than a standard non-turbo Z, because obviously the Z is far heavier than the gti-r. It means i could get a dump valve and all the other little toys that come with a turbo. Im not really interested in getting a TT because of the fuel consumption and prefer looks to speed but i was thinking about this today and am just interested more than anything to know if it would be of any benefit. In my opinion a 2litre turbo pushing 300bhp is a far superior engine quality wise than a 3l v6 monster pushing a piddly lil 222hp. What does any1 think?

Just out of pure interest

IMHO The fuel consumption on a 300bhp Pulsar engine would be just as bad as on a TT engine, smaller engine, but it's kicking out a lot of power.

well i was thinking if you turn the boost right down it wouldnt be as bad seeing as i drive 60miles a day to work. My non turbo does bout 20miles to the gallon and i thought maybe a 2litre with turned down boost may be faster when needed and more efiicient when needed

Nah, don't even think about it, the pulsar is 4wd for a start, the engine a SR20DET, can be found in the S14 and S15, it's a very highly easy to tune engine, but not beefy enough for the Zed, only options i would go for are, Skyline or supra engines, single turbo's or twins, but you can tweak yer N/A up a bit for a bit more umphh......

Plus a Pulsar engine at 300bhp, thats nearly 50% more than the stock, and for a 4 Cylinder engine that is quite a lot.

k thx guys, just a thought, a 4wd zed would be cool. i just get pissed off having a 3l v6 24v and get raped by a pulsar gtir 2l with a dump valve and a bleed valve.

looks like ill keep my lump for a while

I think even if you had a TT Zed the Pulsar would do you most of the time, unless going 110-120+. A lot of them can do low 13s/high 12s 1/4 miles.

The Zed engine, will have stacks more torque than the SR20, which is dead handy for low revs and getting a heavy car moving, not sure about the Pulsar but the S14 weighs about 300Kg less (~1290Kg) than the Zed, I'd say the pulsar was lighter again so the lack of torque isn't an issue. It would make a Zed kinda undriveable off boost when doing your shopping etc.

For high perfomance racing or dragging the SR20 is prolly worth considering as they are light, very tuneable and there are a lot of products for tuning them. Probably much cheaper to tune too.

Jezz.

so where can i get a sr20 from? i dont know about engines, is that from another nissan?

The SR20 is the engine in the Pulsar and S14 & S15 (newer shaped 200sx), no S15 in UK though unless imported.

You need to change the Gearbox probably, and the diff, ecu etc.

It has been done before, someone here posted a thread to a zed with a Sr20 in.

Did you really mean your NA does 20 mpg ? My TT often does more than that ! You must have very heavy feet, or perhaps something is wrong ??? I remember other NA owners gloating that theirs do over 30mpg on an easy motorway run.

well i get 400kms for a £40 fill up. whatever it works out as its terrible and a lot less than i thought.

im gonna get it rolling roaded before my 19s come. see what that says

£40 = 48 lts @ 83p

48 lts = 10.5 gals

400 kms = 248.5 miles

248.5 / 10.5 = 23.6 mpg

The bad news is (if my sums are right) that your fuel consumption is about right for round town driving.

I take it your car is US spec? as the Japanese spec NAs are 230bhp as standard.

Why are you so botherd about a dump valve?

When you look at the costs of buyin a SR20 then getting it fitted(gearbox sorted etc) it maybe an idea to look into a TT conversion(S.E Nissan could do it). Also the cost of buying tuning parts to take the SR20 to 300bhp is also a factor.

Or a cheaper option would be to fit a NOS kit with 50-70bhp jets. Heres the dyno chart for a sorted NA with 100bhp jets:

dynochart44.jpg

I think with an Air Filter/Exhaust/ECU chip and NOS would make it quite quick. Have a look at what the US NA Zedders do and check out some Nissan Maxima links(some models have similar engines) http://www.bignissans.org.uk/

Also if the fuel consumption is a bit much you can always get your NA converted to LPG, not sure what the availablity is like where you are but in london there are a lot of LPG stations popping up and at 34p per litre it aint bad(you will still be doing abot 20mpg but it wont cost as much).

If I had the cash and my TT was sorted I would like an LPG auto NA, just for bombing around town and stuff(would also like NOS just for killing the scrabbley hot-hatches)) biggrin.gif

But surely, by the time he has bought a Pulsar engine and tuned it too 300bhp and put it in the car, he could have spent the money on a TT engine. Or sold his NA for a TT and modded it.

The gti-r may be fast but they are ugly little things. As has been said there wouldn't be much torque for a heavy car and the costs of changing it all over would be a waste of time.

Dump valve? TT Z has recirculating valves which are meant to be better anyway. Depends if you must have a farting noise to accompany your gear change. I can produce that myself!

Get NOS or swap the car for a TT would be the best way. If you put a TT engine in your NA it would still be missing all the other TT details anyway.

Get your priotries right, put a TT engine in a Pulsar, then you can show them the way home !

get all pulsars, burn them in a big bonfire, then get 3sgte engine, tune to 400+ brake, anti lag and more and put that engine in!

oh yes, dont let anyone say anything about 4cylinders not being strong enough or any shit like that (SRRAE, thats quite a lot for 4 cylinder ha ho ha), its a case of doing the work properly!

as the yanks would say, theres no replacement for displacement...i would say, yes there is, a fucking turbo! hahah

LOL @ ANDYP a TT engine in a pulsar, now that i would like to see smile.gif theres no question of me selling my car.I bought and imported the car from japan by myself. it came with full bodykit and it looks mean and low and very agressive. ive put tints in and a large sound system and my 19s are on their way along with a rear under spoiler and a full stainless steel exhaust with twin dtms either side. I love my car so couldnt sell it. Nos prob is the best option i think, i wasnt serious about putting a gtir engine in a Z. i just wondered what would happen if you did, because gtirs are scary things at 300hp.

A lot of them can do low 13s/high 12s 1/4 miles.)

I must be racing the wrong ones! I've raced 5 gti-rs one of them being a supposed 350bhp dp motorsports car, and have blown them off the road from 60 up, I get more competition from subarus!

OK then, lets open this up again.

11.4 sec 1/4 mile and 538ps isn't bad from a 2 litre 4 cylinder wink.gif

Not sure about odd wheels on front and rear though....
