Hey guys,

turned over the 300 today after ages and it sounded shagged! I knew the engine would need changing one day but was hopeing it would be later rather than sooner. Based on my assumption I may need to start looking for a new lump. I was just wondering how much a relatively good engine goes for nowadays or how much would a rebuild cost? up untill now me and my brother have been doing all the work ourselves in our free time i.e. changing the turbos, body kit, primer etc and i'm a junior accountant! LOL, So I won't be doing any of this myself anymore and would want to get it done from a professional. Any help and advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers peeps

How did it sound shagged? Rattley? Thats because its been stood and the lifters have drained. Takes a while for them to fully jack out again with oil pressure so wouldn't worry just yet ;) Get it warm and take it for a run, it'll sound a lot better :)

It was quite a loud knocking sound, I did think at first it probably was because it hasn't been started for so long. Even so I've done alot of work on it so I will eventually want a sound engine to enjoy my fruits properly! Thanks for the advice Andy you've actually helped me out quite alot over the years without even knowing it ( taking out the engine to replace the turbos) you've given some top advice on the site mate!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Whoops wrong quote :wack:

LOL. Why not get another block with heads and rebuild that ready for when it finally goes bang? That way you have less downtime and less pressure on sourcing parts...
