Hi Guys

I am about to dip my toe into the world of the 300ZX and am having difficulty finding a decent insurer, particularly one that will deal with modified cars.

My heart is set on a 1992+ TT with Targa roof but the insurance quotes I am getting are almost as much as the cost of buying the car, and that is just for an unmodified one. Is there a secret source of affordable Zed insurance known only to the iluminati of the Zed World or will I have to mortgage my child to get road legal?

Welcome Neil.

I insure my car through broadsure direct. It's a 1991 TT import. I'm 27, full no claims, 3 points (reduced from 6) and currently paying £450 full comp. That's unlimited mileage.

I found the Zed to be the cheapest of most turbo cars (supras/subarus) to insure.

Hold old are you, NCB, etc...?

Aplan is spose to be really good. I will be trying them next time!

i use carole nash with a classic policy but have an agreed mileage of 6000 miles a year all mods are disclosed fully comp i am currently charged £350 a year thats with homestart and roadside recovery. but i am also an old git as i turned 40 this jan !!

If you have some no claims and aren`t too young try Bell they quoted me £192 for my renewal, its also worth trying moneysupermarket.com as they search thru loads of companys for you.

Hi Guys

Thanks for that. I am 46 (at least in body if not soul) I have an Audi A4 TDi which I use for business/ferrying kid around etc. with 4 years NCB, but I want the Zed as a second car which is why I think the insurance is so high. I will followup the leads given so far

cheers

Also I found if your getting a import you can almost double the qoute

Thats not always the case my last car was a UK and insurance was about £350, changed to an import and shopped around, result = £192

Neil,

Welcome to the club, good choice !

Just renewed my Import TT with Sureterm Direct.

Contact details are:

Tel: 0870 2020230, http://www.sureterm.com Based in Cambridge.

Thet specialise in Imports, Yanks etc.

Classic and collectors policy, fully comp, All glass cover, stereo cover, breakown and recovery cover and legal expense cover came to £268.

I am 45, clean licence, and have another car at my disposal to use on a daily basis. Think they are open till 8.00pm weekdays, not sure about weekends.

Cover can be up front, or spread over 6 months or a year, although they charge a wee bit extra for that.

Hope this helps.

I'm 40 and with 'houghtons' £260 full comp 5000 miles/yr, and they don't use no claims.

I have just changed to Admiral Multi, now paying £600 for my UK 93 TT and Seat Alhambra 1.9TDI combined.

On a seperate note beware as a guy round the corner from me got his car stolen from his drive on Monday. He had left it running and went to get a scraper (doh!) you can guess the rest. I have to own up to doing this quite often!!

Really? That's interesting. I'm looking at handing my company car back and working on the allowance, so will be back to 2 car ownership soon. I'll make sure I give them a call as you're not allowed to use your NCB on 2 policies.

Si, some companies do back when I had 2 cars elephant were doing it but you had to arrange it over the phone so you lost their "web only" discount, obviously still worth it to get the ncd on 2 cars though.

I'm on a classic policy with Chaucer through Houghton Insurance as a 2nd car limited to 3000 a year, doesn't use my no claims and I have LOTS of mods declared for £340 :)

I looked at a lot of insurers most wouldn't even consider my car, but then I was very pleaseantly suprized with my AA quote.

I'd been with them for 9 years. They first quoted me £420, then rung me back to say as I'd been with them for so long with 9years NCB and no points they'd be able to offer me a discount bringing it down to £380.

When the printed details came through they were offering me Fully Comp with Hubbie as a second named driver for £365 spread over the 12 months. I also have AA homestart and recovery to a specialist garage of my own choice. Very handy as I also drive the RX7.

I would also recommend Sky as they specialise in modified cars. They know what they are doing and can give you a good quote.

all the best

Eileen

We have specialist markets for modified vehicles and for imports. Plus with your OC membership you'll get a discount. If all else fails, give us a try at Adrian Flux on 0870 777 888. Or send me a PM with your contact details and I'll pass it on for someone to call you back for a chat about your insurance!

Dan I used to be insured with all my Performance Cars using Adrian Flux

You used to feel like you were talking to enthusiasts etc and they would come back with a good deal!

Not no more I think there employing a load of couldnt care less girls who havent a Clue..

MoneySupermarket out of all of them were the specialists and they dont even advertise the fact

hic 08451 290290

im with Adrian Sux

26 6 year NCB

A fookin grand and a load of hassle having to tell them what i had for the dinner last night and send documentation to prove it

sorry will not be renewing and will not recomend them to anyone

last year i tried adrian flux......no NCB but 5 years experience, so far enough ideal but on a 2+2 TT was quoted £5500 for scarborough (low insurance area) !!!!!!!! now one year later, and obviously with 1 years no claims, and 25 approaching, moneysupermarket, specifically bell.co.uk quoted me £773 for leeds!! i mean i know you get a discount with NCB's but really :) ive not even really thought of bothering with flux, as i think the bell offer is pretty excellent, for my age, NCB's and postcode (

to put into perspective, my hyundai accent mvi 1.5i is £850 in the same postcode
