It's always the way, a simple couple of hours doing a simple job turns into nightmare from hell.

Was changing the discs and pads over so all i had to do was get the wheel off, pop out the brake pads, undo the two bolts holding the calipers on then whip the disk off, pop the new one on, grease the new pads and put it all back together.

What happens? I have to use a mallet the get the top bolt moving just tapping the end of the spanner when it slips and flattens the bend in the brake pipe going to the top of the caliper

so for the past 2 hours all i've been trying to do is undo the bolts holding the pipe in place so i could get a new one made up at shepshed autospares.

What happens? The usual, the bloody things are so old the bolt faces shear off and although the caliper end is now undone, can i get the axle end to undo?

Can i *****cks :(

Had to leave it as the light is going now, no wheel, no brake disc dripping brake fluid everywhere and now i can't find the frigging pure-gas to soak it in overnight.

ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!! :headvswal

I'm not surprised you can't find the puregas - its PLUSGAS lol. The flare nuts require the use of a decent crows foot type socket to undo them, you can't apply enough torque just by using 2 of the flats with an open ended spanner. Too late now I know but hopefully a lesson for anyone else doing this in the future. Oh and never use a mallet on the end of a spanner to undo nuts. For a start you risk injuring yourself and also, as you discovered, the spanner always comes off and damages something in its path. Link 2 combination spanners together to give more leverage instead...

Oh my Nick not your day. It took me 2 days to do mine due to not having the right tools for the job and having to go out and buy them. Then the light faded.

Least you haven't hit yourself with the mallet and have it ping out of your hand and hit you in the face like I did. I was covered in bruises at one point. LOL

Don't worry Mate, you'll get it sorted.

How on earth did you manage to flatten the bend mate didn't you move the wheel to one side far enough?

I had to give up trying to get my bolts of the calipers with the spanner/mallet combination and go buy a special tool instead it was so much easier.

Girl with tool's will remove and replace brake pads and disks all round.

What do you think mate would I get any business ;)

Oh and before you lot start any silly buisness I'm referring to brake removal and nothing doggy

Pure gas/plus gas whatever the bloomin stuff is i haven't got any in the shed lol

I never use a mallet on the end unless i'm holding the other end on with my fingers to stop it pinging off and damaging something anyway. The bolts just needed a tap to get them going as they'd seized.

Plus i was using a crows foot spanner to undo the nuts on each end of the pipe but as with all old cars especially when they're old, the edges of them just give up the ghost and wear off, usually due to someone using the wrong tool for the job the last time they were done unfortuantely.

As you say nothing i can do apart from hope that by tomorrow the plus gas will have soaked in enough that i can use a wrench to grip in and turn it enough to loosen it.

Fook knows what i'll replace it with though.

Just come and pick up a pipe from me mate.

Saw the end off the brake pipe that is stuck, then you can use a hex sided socket to undo it. But come first thing for the pipe.

LOL!!

Wot are you doing on here????

Havent you got water leaks on Zeds to fix???? :slap:

Just a thought ....You should have nipped the flexi brake hose to stop the brake fluid coming out... would have saved you having to bleed all the brakes if the master cylinder emptied....

i can't do much about that, we spent so long faffing around trying to get the other end of the pipe disconnected it had leaked a load out anyway. going ot have to do a full bleed when the new pipe's in

UPDATE

Well it's buggered.

Finished fitting the discs and pads the other sides with no drama, took about 30/40mins.

We've had a blowtorch on both connectors, various clamps, sockets, wrenches, spanners and everything else and CANNOT get either the connector between flexible pipe and mini brake line or between the flexible pipe and main brakeline to budge a mm and given up on the top one in case we round that off as well, we've used every type of spanner available and they all slip.

The car's pissing brake fluid out the drivers side and i have no brakes so looks like it a call first thing in the morning to find a brake/engineering specialist with the tools to remove and replace the connector.

Why is everything so rotten on this car compared to my old one when they're the same age?

Soon as i can afford it i'll be taking the car in for mickyb to fit the brembo kit, replace the pipes and completely overhaul the suspension and lower it front and back.

There goes another couple of grand lol

Cheers matey, one slip with a tool on a job i've done so many times before on other cars and it turns a simple 2 hour job into a 2 day job with about 100 quids worth of repairs to do by a garage   :headvswal

Nothing a few litres of four star and a match can't solve... ;)

I've lost count of the number of times I've said that when the same thing has happened to me

If I was nearer mate I would have been round this morningnto help you out, or laugh at you :p

Mines in for an MOT in the morning, couple of weeks early but I want a head start if needed.
