Hi,

I have read the forms and threads on here and have found where i can phone and get the jap 2-pin bulbs from, but i was wondering if anyone knows of any shops that actually stock them. Nissan or halfrauds or motorworld???

Any help much appreciated as driving around on main beam is really starting to piss people off.

cheers

cheers. Problem i have is that currently the bulbs have blown, so at present have no dipped lights, and would like to get some in asap, which is why i was hoping someone might know if there is a shop that stocks them.

But thanks for the link, hopefully they do next day delivery.

I have a spare pair of H3C bulbs let me know if you want them

Danny @ DTA in the traders forum stocks the jap straight replacement bulbs, top bloke and very helpfull.

The mod is making a 1" to 2" piece of wire with a ringlet/fork on one end and a straight slot the same size as the one on the bulb. You then unscrew the screw only a little where the bulb goes in and insert the ringlet/fork under the screw, tighten it back up snugley, then insert the slot into the bulb which earths it.

You can then walk into any halfrauds and buy the uk bulbs.

where do you insert the spade that has been earthed into the new uk bulb??

Is there an obvious gap where the spade will fit.

Well with a JSpec bulb (H3c) you have two spades on the bulb base, so you have a twin female connector on the cars loom. On the Euro bulb (H3) you just have one spade on a wire.

So you are adding a second spade, with wire, to the metal body of the headlamp assembly to form an earth. You now have two spades again that will go into the connector on the loom.

Tip - Get some internal cooker wire from your local small appliance repair shop (single core heat resistant type) and use this for the additional wire.

managed to get a HC3 bulb from an auto parts dealer today, £1.80 each. Came home and removed the originals (great fun) and saw that they had indeed blown. Fitted the new ones, which look identical to the ones i removed, minus the blue tints and nothing.

Put the old and new side by side but cant tell any differences whatsoever. Am i using the wrong type of bulb, i.e do i need a specific H3C or are they all the same. Failing any help or ideas i guess i will have to get the circuit tester on it to make sure that there is both live and earth getting to it.

And thanks for the reply re the headlight mod, from reading someones earlier post it says to insert the loose connector that has just been wired to the earth into the bulb and not the connector, that is why i got slightly confused.

Thanks to all

Put a multi-meter across the plug end to see what, if any, voltage you are getting.

If you've bough H3c bulbs, with two prongs, then thats the right sort.

Looks like you could have another problem somewhere.

goody...

they definately are hc3 bulbs and they are identical in every way to the other bulbs. The only thing that confuses me is that the bulbs which stopped working are actually blown, so i automatically thought that it must just be a blown bulb, but the new ones dont work at all.....

2 questions

Is there a way of removing the bulb once you have unclipped the lead and under the clip surrounding the bulb. It seems a bit tricky to get out.

Second question. Where apart from the bonnet would i look for a headlight fuse? I have seen the one under the main fuse cover but it isa huge plug looking thing and not a fuse. The only athoer fuse under there is the 15amp headlight fuse next to the battery fuse block. This isnt blown.

Guess i will have to get the multimeter out and test away.

And i have tried to subscribe but only paypal is accepted and i am waiting for them to verify my account, just incase anyone thought i was a cheapskate

I think the clip gets in the way a bit, I know it's not easy to get in there anyway, in fact with all the turbo associated stuff it's a right pain in the arse :D Nope sorry, no easy way.

Before you start searching around, check with you meter at the plug, on both headlamps, as they run separate sides, there is a left hand loom and a right hand loom, with their own relays and fuses. The only thing common to both is the earth circuit and the switch.

cheers,

only tried the passenger side and then guessed something must be wrong. Will give the drivers side a go now and report in 10hours once i have removed the bulb.

cheers again

cant see whats going on, there is live and earth but the lights wont turn on. The guy mentioned that the bulbs he bought were gas charged, but there isnt a hid kit. Anyone got any ideas, people are getting pissed off with me blinding them.

Im right in thinking that all lights need are live and earth arent i??

If you've got a +ve and -Ve at 12vdc then it should work. Doesn't even matter if you get them the wrong way round (not that you can).

Give this a try...... Take one of your front fog lamps out (or any normal H3 bulb) make up a temp earth strap, push the (temp)earth strap into one of the two loom plug spades and connect the H3 to the other loom plug spade. Don't bother mounting it into the headlamp, as you need it in your hand (watch out it could get hot quickly) now touch the other end of the (temp) earth strap to the metal of the H3. If it lights, you know the new bulbs are duff! If not I have no fooking idea at the moment :D

** Don't let any of this temp wiring or bulb touch the metal of the car, just in case you've connected it to the wrong spade :D It'llbe OK for the test, just keep it in your hand.

A standard bulb & earth it to surround !!

Shame u didnt go to CS Thomas this afternoon drove down there to meet, could have sorted u

well when buying the car, the owner told me the lights had blown and turned the light dial up to full to show me that only the main beams worked on the car and not the headlight. I believed him and bought new bulbs. After hours of fiddling i kinda wish that i had undipped the lights first on the indicator stalk..................

funnily enough, afterdoing that the dipped lights came on as if by magic.

Should i leave this forum and never come back. I dont deserve a car

:) Lol :)

Least u had the balls to admit it !!

Glad it sorted

Cheers martin
