hi gazza,

if its a bottom end rattle, then you would notice a noise around 2500-3k rpm

problem is, as crap as it sounds i wouldnt drive the car, otherwise increased strain is placed on the crank, and higher risk of damage to the crank, its normally a rod bearing that wears thin, parts recomended to be replaced when engine out

cambelt&tensioners

waterpump(not vital)

thermostat(not vital)

cam&crank oil seals

oil pump

intake gasket

new water hoses and or plenum bypass

turbo/gaskets

crank measured and checked for damage

new main and big end bearings

you can try and get the rod bearings checked in situ, allow a days labour, downside is its generally a quick fix, and will most likely come back in the near future

good luck bud,

problem is you cant presume the mileage is true on in import in most cases its not and it dont matter if its a ferrari, nissan, porsche! any engine with a few miles will eventually have some engine problem/s wether it be an oil leak, tappet or a bearing, like you said if your going to do it do it properly :)

if you need help with anything you got my number bud ;)
