Thinking of buying a z very soon and need some help from the experts on here ;-)

I have seen a 1991 black lwb twin turbo with 70,000 on the clock. The car is owned by an older man who is retiring now and wants something else. He is the only owner since import and has serviced regularly. He has no modes apart from nismo cat back exhausts, on since import. It has full leather which is bloody immaculate. All in he wants £2200. is this too much? too little?

Are there certain things to check for when looking at these cars, and if i should get it are there any things you would reccomend i get immediately?? i have an apexi turbo timer/boost gauge already, but are there any essentials.

Sorry for the annoying first post, and hopefully someone can help.

thanks

Oh forgot to ask, I see it's done 70k and that he's had it serviced regularly.

I take it that he's a had a proper 60k service done?

will check with him tomorrow to see what he has had done with the car. Im certain he mentioned the fact that the cambelt has been changed recently. It has done 109,000km but from my calculations thats less than 70,000??

I know there is a buyers guide but if you were to buy this car tomorrow what other questions would you ask??

thanks for the help

Price is very dependent on condition with these cars. You can buy a very rough tired 91 LWB TT for £2k or pay over £4k for a Tidy well looked after example.

Hello mate, it seems like a pretty good car but if you do buy it, make sure that you give it agood checking over....cluch, water pump..etc and good luck

read the forums alot to see what sort of things to look out for

zeds are pretty good all round cars but as im sure this lot will agree owning a zed does come with a price!!

good idea to get it checked - but by someone who knows what there talking about aa-rac checks are ok but you will prob find they will be lost with a car like that :) good luck

thanks to all the replies. i know these things have been gone over a thousand times on this site already and i did search and read, but i thought it wouldnt help to ask again incase there were any new things or anything i didnt read i should look for.

Ive owned a few turbos but never an older one. Just selling my audi tt which was a turbo but newer engines seem far more reliable than the older ones, and would be gutted if i bought a dog of a car i could have avoided with some advice.

Enough ranting for now so once again thanks

if you are lazy then whats the point of reading a buyers guide. you wont be bothered to take it in you will go out see the first one fall in love with it, blinded by your heart ruling your head and end up with a dog.

my advice is take your bloody time check it thoroughly. print out the buyers guide and TAKE IT WITH YOU.!

take it for a LONG test drive checking everything out, include slow driving up through all the gears and down again. fast running same up and down the gears.

check for old leaks etc.

if it don't seem right walk away.

also the attitude of the owner helps. if he is clueless about the technical side of things ask for the receipts for the servicing . (not technically minded means cant service his own car) if he cannot produce them take it as a non serviced car and cost it into the price.

bargain with them for a price drop due to its lack of service history etc.

i don't know why i bothered to type this cos if you cant be bothered to use a simple search facility i shouldn't be bothered to help you.

I can honestly say that get a good one and maintain it, mine has had regular oil changes ( 3000 miles ) , weekly checks and routine maintenance, just had its MOT and only failed on split steering gaiters ( original factory items , 16 years old ) and 2 bulbs gone on the rear numberplate , £10 in total to repair, not a problem in the first year of ownership either.

I'm also new, joined to read the wealth of advice... And from it i purchased a 1993 Twin Turbo Auto Targa on Saturday. I pick it up later in the week, it has done just under 58k. Regularly serviced and well looked after, even got the original roof panal storage bags!

Buyers guide was a god send, checked through the lot and all seems ok!

I paid £4495 for mine. Which i didn't think was too bad.

Has the electric drivers seat (all working), cruise and climate control (have to admit i didnt check the cruise!), and leather which is spotless The car in general is immaculate, not a mark on it. Not worth mentioning anyway!

Some nice 17" gun metal grey alloys which look good with it, and it has a HKS exhaust

WHAT A DWEEB!!!!

some people cant take sarcasm and they really are miserable sods. The only reason i posted this was to try and get some information from people who know what they are talking about. i didnt ask for a row from some miserable old git. Why forums always have these people i dont know, but theyall do.

Flame me all you like and tell me that im a dick but im merely speaking my mind. And once again can i thank the people who have provided me with worthwhile advice.

Maybe if people didnt put stupid posts in the middle of others questions then people would read through forums more thoroughly, but with the amount of childish boring moaning that enters a lot of threads people cant be arsed to read them fully.

Oh i hope so, i'll look a tit if its a pain in the ass.

I'm in love with it though, not even got it... It has had to have some new rear suspension arms to get it through the MOT, it felt A Okay to me to drive! But there we go!

But thats being done at the garages expense (i forgot to mention last month it had a full replumbing of the cooling system, so that should be fine for a few years at least).

I only have the garage picture of it, didn't take any on saturday my self. For some stupid reason! I'll put them up later

well hopefully i will be joining you as a new z owner very shortly, just got to get someone to buy my mr2 and audi tt first. Just wish everyone had good intentions instead of moaning at me.

Good luck with yours though.

one thing i hate about forums. What is written isnt always as it would be said. What can be written in a joking way can be taken in a much more serious way than it was ever intended. Much prefer talking face to face or phone to phone, that way you can judge the others persons voice and know what they are thinking.

sorry if anyone has been offended by my rudeness.

hugs and kisses all round

If a brought again i would check all the electrical connectors under the bonnet, may sound odd. If they are cooked chances are all sorts of small but annoying problems/break-downs. Compact area and i would say alot of heat, hence i have vents now!

Aswell as all the usual.

Everyone had your best intentions at heart and just wanted to make sure you didn't get a dud and wishing you never bought the Zed.

I shopped for mine and glad I did and have no regrets.

Good luck with it bud with whatever you decide.

not at all. :duffer: just please take your time over it mate . i have heard many horror stories like "oh it blow up on the way home" etc. dont what you to be another. the guide is very extensive. if the owner dont want to let you test it all out just leave it . he has something to hide.

all the best

hopefully will be getting slick_petes which has been worked on by mikey at z worx. Would i be right in assuming that he would be a good person to buy off??

cheers all

Pete's a great guy, very helpful and sh** hot on Z's,  he's got about 4 plus a fully rebuilt 240Z.

MickeyB is another gent, got our Z from his Dad, and she's been great, wouldn't use anyone else for servicing/repairs etc. :duffer:

Hope you enjoy what you get, if it's the black one your interested, saw it whilst @ Pete's before Christmas whilst having a few Chrome bits put on the car.

Cheerz

Chris
