After being charged £170 in one day by my bank for reasons that, as far as I am concerned, are totally down to them, I am out to get their blood and am going through the procedure of trying to get all my charges back from the last 6 years.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem before and went down the same route and what the outcome was if they did.

Thanks in advance :D

I have just replied the bank with a list of charges they imposed on me :xxx: ers, I did stray over my overdraft limit in the summer and increased the amount of money going into that account to cover, I let them know and low and behold I had over £400 charges in one month and then it continued and got worse because of them :xxx: ers

Will let you know how it goes

Nad300.

Perhaps you could refund my money for the dodgy fuel reg'u sold me as workin.

Have sent Email.. But no resp'... So hence will have to chase you on here...

Well I have sent my cheque for £10 to get my last 6yrs statements so have started ball rolling. Just have to sit and wait now as they have 40 days to send them to me!!

My bank rang me again today to tell me they have bounced another DD and are putting another charge on the account.

So I told her in a forceful tone (I shouted allmost) "If you stop putting furking charges on the account then there would be enough in there to cover the DD."

Muppets

Well my last 6 yrs statements arrived today so Im going to have to sit down at some point and work out what all the charges come to.

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge pile to get through!!!

I sent the cheque for £10 to receive my statements but it hasn't been taken from the account and they have not returned the cheque either!!! How strange!!!

Well the total for my bank charges over the last 6 years came to more than £8000 so it will be interesting to see what they offer me

yep do open another account because you'll lose the one you complain about...also bear in mind they will in most cases reduce charges from the £35-30 down to the OFT / trading standards accepted level of £12....still its a good discount almost 66% off the bill or £5000 in your case Anna...try for more by all means

regards

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have the paperwork here to open a new bank account with a different bank and so am just waiting to hear what they are going to offer to pay back.

Will keep you all posted

Just been offered a settlement by the bank, guess what, for the full amount they have taken off me.

Only thing is it arrived the day after I processed the claim through the courts, I can only hope I can stop the action in time or we go to court.

Yeah you can stop the action. They always buckle once they hear that you have gone through with the court.

I hope so anyways, cos I'm doing the same!!

My bank has requested a letter today (on their 14 day deadline) requesting a list of every date and every charge that I think was unfair!!!

Its going to take me absolutely ages to do!!!

Hey do it, then go onto this web site

Scroll down until you get to the interest calculator, put all the charges in and the date. It will calculate the interest you are allowed to charge if you go to court, print it off and demand your money in 14 days or you will be asking the courts for the interest as well.

Worked for me.

If ever I go overdrawn, I tell them that the automated paying in machine was out of order so therefore I couldn't deposit any money beforehand. They have always refunded the charges because they cannot prove otherwise. Robbing fookers I agree. I once asked for a temporary increase in my overdraft, to which they agreed, but 2 months later I found out that they'd increased the borrowing amount on my loan! I got charged £200 for being overdrawn so I decided to play merry hell with them. They refused a refund at first, but then agreed to review the recordings of my original phone call requesting the increase in overdraft. They finally refunded the £200 because they couldn't find the recordings  :xxx: I won't name the bank, but Hong Kong is a clue.

Good luck, sounds like you'll get a lot back

Excellent.

Have done that and included 3 page print out of charges plus interest and it should be landing on their desk in the morning

I will be doing this soon too , my brother done it and they refuse to refund the charges twice so he drove down to the halifax parked the car outside walked in and threatend to drive the car through the window if they didnt refund, the police were called the situstion got a bit heated the police tried to arrest my brother he knocked them to the ground and explained they had been charging him while his accounts were under insurance as he had cancer at the time, (he was a bit mad while going throung treatment so he lost it) then the police took my brother and the manager into an office in the bank 5 minutes later his accounts fees had all been refunded and accounts were left open....turned out it took a few words from the police to the halifx for them to realise that they were in the wrong and a refund is due.......

I wrote to NatWest today demanding just under £650. Will see what they say... ;)

I have written to Natwest today, asking for my list of charges. Should be interesting as they seem to charge me everytime I fart.

I've been meaning to do this (Natwest), but am worried about the closure of account and the fact I couldn't afford to repay my overdraft at a moments notice.

Do they give you a max time period to pay it off?

I'm stunned by how MANY people have been screwed for over hundreds of ££££s, looks like most of the UK population. How much money have these tw@ts made over the years, I wonder. Most of them charge us 15%+ when we borrow ffs. We're lucky to get 5% if we invest. The world is owned and run by the :xxx: s.

  • 4 weeks later...

Got an offer from NatWest on Friday for the full amount requested. It's a generic letter in which they do not mention closing my account (which was closed 3 years ago anyway) but they state the following:

Any charges that properly accrue in the future will be applied to your account in line with our published tariff and in accordance with your agreement with the bank. Should you be unwilling to accept any such charges, then we may need to consider if we are prepared to continue to provide you with your existing banking facilities. Instead we may offer you a simple account that does not offer borrowing facilities or other services that can result in charges.

Well the bank (Natwest) received my letter on the 8th Feb and after endless phone conversations and being told several different things it turns out that they have made me an offer which I should have received weeks ago!!! I havent.

The woman I was speaking o has made a 'note' on the system and they now have another 7 days before they have to respond to that ' note'. What a joke!! I should have had the money in my account over 2 weeks ago now and instead my phone bill is going up!!! They have also sinced charged me £70 for one months charges but say I will have to apply to claim that back once my ongoing claim is sorted :headvswal

Result!!!

Bank has said that in no way are the charges wrong and that they are totally within their rights to charge that HOWEVER, as a goodwill gesture they want to offer me £4300!!!!!

At least thats all srted now - even though they will still be charging me at least £30 a go again now!!

sent a letter to hsbc, doubt ill get a flaming thing to be honest!! judst my luck
