dont think its a chip

they take the dvd rom out and reflash the firmware on the drive

backups then played ;)

Thats where I'm getting confused cos there are a couple of chips out now but also USB adapters to connect the DVD drive and flash the firmware yourself.

Here: http://www.modchip.com/xbox360/

Flashing might be more futureproof but seems to only work on certain drives?

Only just noticed it's possible and don't know much about it.

the usb adaptor just allows you to read and backup games to your pc *NOT* to use them on your xbox.

it basically saves you pulling out your xbox dvd to plug into your pc (only way of backing up as a normal dvdrom will not read 360 discs properly).

the others are just instead of flashing firmware.

as long as you know which drive you have (loads of info everywhere on this), a firmware flash will do exactly the same job.

be warned though - it will be fairly easy i think for microsoft to read firmware revisions over xbox live and disable accounts.

they are not doing it at the moment but reading firmware over network connections is easy and all they have to do is see if you have anything other than their certified firmware. Thats why I havent done it yet.

you going for bigger turbos and a wide arch kit???

My Lads pall is big into upgrades for these I'll see if I can get some info.

i'm sure he said they are modualar and designed in such a way that you either just remove the lot and slot a complete new drive or use piggy back extrenal drivers.

anyway stop playing games and get a bloody proper job  :slap:

Im about to flash a mates as soon as I can get case open, I did my own after a guy kept ballsing it up.

My motherboard has a VIA Chipset so I can plug the drive straight into my PCs sata connector. I havent bought any usb adapters or such to do the job. I go on XBox Live no troubles, and so does my brother. There updated firmwares i.e. 5.2 but Im just going to stick 3.3 on my mates as it works fine on mine.

Still confused...

If you only need to flash the drive then whats the advantage of the chips?

If they can hide the firmware from micro$haft and avoid you getting banned from Live then might be worth doing.

Think i'll do some research tonight :)

Cheeky barsteward Mark,

The Strosek Xbox Twin Turbo 360 is nearly ready, just going for a silver respray now LOL

I'll stick with just paying full price, the games and service are worth the money. Any other console i would have ripped it off (like my xbox crystal i chipped to open up the emulator and media center features)

The 360 works as a media centre, you can use http://www.tversity.com to transcode and stream all your media off the pc/mac no matter what format directly to your tv

You can play live games in a dead easy way and the games are stunning in hd

What more do you want? :D

The copy games my mates play online are stealth patched so microsoft can't detect them :D

True, well tell you what i'll buy you're dash off you for 50 quid so you can afford an xbox 360 game then you can have it back when you can afford it :D

stealth patched hows that work then

I dont think theres a stealth patch :) I think someones been feeding him lines......

AFAIK, the discs are read in a 360 drive connected to your pc (or with the 360usb adapter and any dvdrom), and they are copied straight to Dual Layer DVD.

anyone tried that TVDiversity thing, thats where the old xbox slaughters the 360 on the media centre, for playing AVIs MPGs etc.

Gonna try that tonight

stealth patched hows that work then

actually they DON'T m8

yes they may contain some stealth info to stop m/s detecting the game/machine when played online, BUT as m/s are not at present doing ANYTHING about copied games who knows if/when m/s decide to ban 360 serials if the stealth mode will work, flashed firmware and copied games for the 360 have been about for nearly a year now and up to now m/s have done nothing

Id just be happy if i could get my 360 to play region 1 dvds, dont mind buying the games but it is a shame it wont play american movies

  • 2 years later...
