Ok got the car safely back and tucked up in the garage.......... almost, bloody mrs old cooker at the back so the garage door dont quite shut!! went outthis morning to checker her over as it was dark when she got here all seams fine :D

I've known the batt is knackered for a month or so but as she's off the road for another few months i thought i'd make it one of the last things i buy, i normally just jump her with the omega ( never had a prob ) untill now.... i know 1 spark plug is knackered, but surly she should start??? Jaffa was over new years eve to help fix the air leak   but even together we couldnt get her started...........

she's turning over but just not catching! could this be the PTU? or could it be because on the spark plug? got some on order from smithy and they should be here in the morning (but to know if i need to trace down a S2 PTU, no point getting an S1)

i/we could smell fuel new years eve and again i could smell fuel today so dont think that's the prob and never had a prob with compression as she's always run fine, never over heated...... only taken her out once!

Oh and the Zed's now in March, Cambs, anybody in the area wanna have a look please feel free :D :D

Any advise please.

Cheers

Neil

Should normally start on 5. could well be the ptu, id try swapping it for a spear before buying a s2 one.

If your changing the plugs then you can test the spark to each cylinder when you take the old ones out

Just worried about internal damage, with it over fuelling like it was could it have been detting, and if so would the car go into safety boost to make sure no damage was done?? The only reason it was over fueling because there was a massive air leak, hopefully too much air to cause detting if that's the way it works??????

I'm slowly learning about the enigine in these cars but still got a lo to learn.

over fueling wont do too much and it wont dett.

lack of fuel is the main thing to avoid. as that will cause it to dett

  • Author

ahhh i see, is there any reason other than the PTU that would cause it too turn iver but not fire up????

Thanks for the comments so far....keep em coming!

You need fuel, air, spark, compression and timing

thats all

so yeah lots of things

  • Author

Well timing is ok, i can smell fuel airs ok, things i dont know about yet are spark and compression, the car was running sweat as a nut before the air leak, could over fueling do anything to affected the compression???

No fuel / low fuel pressure / dirty fuel

No air / flooded / big vaccum leak

No spark / ignition / ptu / wiring harness and connectors / coilpacks / plugs

No compression / head gasket / loose plugs / worn rings

Timing / cas

id go down the spark route first

ok bud they should e here in the morning so i'll change the offending one and see if i can get her started, if so then i'll get round to changing the rest when i'm home next week.

Fired my na up yesterday after being unused in the garage for the whole of Christmas and it took a lot to get it going. Seemed that it was lack of fuel - kept pumping at the accelerator untill it caught. Normally it fires up first time but then it is used every day. Left it running then put it away (garaged) and it fired up ok this morning.

I didn't think that they lacked fuel after standing for a while but it certainly seemed the case for me.

Good luck

suppose, they were dirty (black ends and wet) when we checked to other day, just didnt have time to change them all, leaving at 1.30 and need to spend time with the kids.

Neil

if they were very wet then could be flooded. Might be worth leaving all the plugs out overnight to let the fuel evaporate.

Main thing is to check each new plug sparks, then you know all your connections and coil packs are ok etc, including the ptu.

It should not flood if not firing. Get someone to spin her over and put a longish screwdriver on one of the injectors, you should be able to hear it clicking as it works. If you cannot I would check the cable between the PTU and the CAS unit, they often get corrosion on the connector electrodes. Where was the air leak ?, has something else been knocked / left off which is cauusing it to not fire. Why not just do a second check on the work carried out to ensure no leads or pipes are off.

Mine did this and it was the PTU. Sounds like it to me mate.

Well it's not the PTU, one of the Mrs mates is round, fella prob's by the sound of it so used the time to nip out to the garage, changed one more spark plug, and conected the coil pack to another new one and it sparks.. so thats ok,and then she started!!!! but was running like shit!! only ticking over with my foot onthe gas.... and i mean only just... about 4 - 500 rmp, oil pressure gauge showed nothing... then it started to move and settled at just under half way, which seamed strange, as normaly it's straight up there, but might have take a while to build the pressure as the low tick over?? but as soon as m foot was lifted it died popping and banging..... could this be a case left over fuel, from the air leak?? does it just need a good rev to get it all burnt out?? i did rev it a bit but the fumes started to choke me! does that sound normal after a massive over fueling?. Gonna try and move her out the garage tommorrow and rev her up... good idea or not??

any other suggestions??

Cheers
