I took the Zed out for the first time the other night, that didnt end well.... ayway while i was out i had a little play wit my apexi multi checker, and it came up with ignition timeing 0, i'm sure i've read that you can advance the timeing for better performance, can anyone tell me a bit more about it.

Cheers

The only correct way to check the timing is to put a timing gun on, the ecu presumes this is what it is set to and uses this as its baseline.

Stock Base timing when at normal running temp is 15 degrees. Advancing the base timing by a couple of degrees can offer more power, but at the risk of detonation. Advancing/Retarding the Base timing is done by moving the CAS unit with the aid of a Timing gun.

Most Aftermarket ECU's (except some varients of the mines which require a base timing retard) depend on a base idle of 15, and then alter the timing depending on the rev/load range for best performance and its best to keep the stock timing and allow the ECU programmers expertise to advance/retard it correctly.

Some ECU chips do run very rich with little timing advances, such as the JWT....allowing you an extra couple of degrees advance.......but I would'nt recommend it if your not used to listening for detonation as there is some risk involved.
