need your help again guys car is now all fixed no faults showing and is not missfiring but........... when i am giving it a good rev and step off the acelerator whilst still in a lower gear and engine is decellerating from highish revs i get a load of pops and bangs and have been told that it seems to have flames coming out of the exhausts, now i think this means it is over fuelling? been told it looks fantastic but is this doing harm to my engine and where do i start trying to sort out over fuelling. car is totally standard uk tt manual with a two stage boost button fitted( dont know what the settings are!) never used to pop or bang, only doing it now car is all fixed and running like a dream and wow these things can shift!

kindest regards sorry for long post

you got dump valves on it? Totally standard you say? I would expect only to see flames on a straight through exhaust from the turbo's back. And 2 stage boost button??

the car has a two stage boost button fitted which is on steering column which you press for either setting and i dont even konw which is which!, it does not have dump valves, and has decat pipes leading to twin single exit 4.5 inch pipes. it is fitted with a turbosystems ecu which fellow members say is bad but all seems to be fine these were fitted before i bought car

any other suggestions

simon

Mine used to pop and bang in the same way as yours.

Mine doesn't do it any more but I know it is still overfuelling.

ย

As I understand there needs to be excess fuel coming out of the zorsts for it to ignite.

ย

Maybe you could run a conzult on it and see if the O2 sensors are showing normal signals?

I had mine pop the other week but the engine was still quite cold (i don't like revving it hard when it's cold but i was trying to get out of a junction) but it's never done it before or after that

possible a boost leak,i know when somebody(read myself) put on new aftermarket intercoolers there was a bolt left out which caused a boost leak and lots of pops, bangs and big flames :wack:

thanks for the answers so far ......keep them coming!

i dont think i have a boost leak as it is boosting right round the dash gauge and my aftermarket is showing 0.9 and 1.0 at the top of the rev range.

is o2 sensor the next port of call as i have done the "blink test" and it showed code 55 no faults , does this include the o2 sensors or is it a separate test as i tried and got no blinks

ย

and can o2 sensors just fail and what other symptoms would indicate faulty sensors

i have a similar problem, although it only happens occasionally upon decelleration. i get one single pop out the exhaust. one of my o2 sensors is 'lazy' ie. slow to respond to changes in mixture i think. i have BOVs installed too which doesnt really help.

sounds like this is happening to mine, pardon me for being stoopid but are the o2 sensors not removed for the decatts or am i taliking out of my backside as i am not mechanically minded, how easy is it to change o2 sensors over?

ย

simon

no theyre there to help measure the air/fuel mix. the AIV is removed when you decat.

if you can find someone with a Consult then that will tell you straight away how well your sensors are behaving.

or get a greddy informeter, gives read out a bit like consult - shows both left and right o2 sensor values. I got mine from ebay for 60 quid
