ok i have been a ford rs man for years now and i am not sure whats the best aproach on a zx i know an engine is an engine but just wondered if there are any hints or tips that can help me?

 

i know about building the engines side ie steel rods,pistons,porting heads,cams,chips and so on but just wondered on the electrical side any gadgets that make a diference? if so what do they do please?

im just trying to get my head around them before i get mine so i can get prepared for when i get one soon

there is on the market which one of are traders sells here known as consult, can be purchased from danny@ DTA (free plug dan :) ) this simply plugs from port on car to laptop.

 

using the consult software you can read error codes from the ECU check reading's from all electrical sensors, realtime temps/base timing etc etc, and can clear error codes, so will certainly help pinpoint some problems

 

secondly £20 of your hard earned to subscribe here will be all you need, as alot of people will bend over backwards to help out, fook my back is acheing :rolleyes: :wack:

Try to steer clear of piggy back fuel controllers etc, they're ok to a point but not much use on the Z unfortunately. Custom chips are the way to go. Mapping software? There's LOADS of it out there on the web, all you need then is an eprom burner and you can do your own :) I'll find some links for the software for you :)

back to basics like any motor really,the objective is to get as much in as possible, as fast as you can, then to get it out just as fast and all in the right porpotions :) and the magic ingredient is air with a splash of fuel

i have done a few motors but all fords you see my last one was a 300bhp fiesta rs turbo and my favourite one was my old xr4i that was 350bhp

Few mapping utilities for you to have a look at there :) TunerPro is quite interesting - you can see every parameter that the ecu uses...

Think about what electronics you're gonna buy 1st, if you're going to buy a boost controller, wideband O2, traction control etc as well as the eprom emulator & chip burner then it's about the same price to just splash out on an AEM standalone which does all of the above in one unit.

I had it all as seperate units but have just bought the AEM, seems silly to have all these units that have no idea what the other is doing.

 

edit: Oh & the AEM serial gauge is seriously fkin cool, displays all of the OEM sensors & is fully configurable. No need to run seperate senders & wires all over the car, they just daisy chain together.

thats sounds like what i will need any ideas on prices of these and where to get them from please as i want to start getting things in ready for when the car arrives and i can just put them on asap then

Believe Smithy does the AEM stuff, I may have the full setup with dual widebands for sale in the very near future. Haven't fitted it yet but I'm considering getting rid of the Z. I'll try to catch you on MSN & fill you in.
