Just been up to Colne and back yesteerday and today- 540 mile round trip. I I was pleasantly surprised by the driving on the motorways- I thought they would be full of impatient people trying to get home, especially with the fog. But nope, everyone was courteous and considerate, leaving plenty of room.

However- get on to the A roads... wow, where did all those tossers spring from?! Madness I tell you. Vans 6 inches from your bumper, people cutting people up, general mahem.

Why is that...?

It does surprise me when I see high standards of driving in the UK.

I'd personally say British drivers are generally arrogant, ignorant and belligerant. Not to mention the most impatient....... :xxx:

No-one seems to know how far 100m is - the level of visibility one should use rear fog lights. Oh no - we have these fekking little red lights that hardly get used and then......most idiots switch them on when there is a little fog. FFS if you can see the car in front, when he doesn't have his rear fogs on then why do you need yours!!!

Oh and on a motorway, signalling to change lane doen not mean you can just pull out to overtake - you have to give way to the car coming up behind you already in that lane.............And when you've overtaken, why not pull back to the left so the car that you forced to brake can continue on their way!

And you all know this one - you're on a dual carriageway driving your ZX at say 80mph+ passing a long line of cars travelling at 60mph. Why oh why is it that just when you are about to pass the people carrier, the w@nker pulls out in front of you and proceeds to overtake the rest of the slow drivers.....at 65mph  Use your fekking mirrors - if there was nothing behind me why not wait until I've passed. And it's always a fekking people carrier - Just because your spouse or your ecological beliefs prevent you from having a sports car, get over it!

Having driven in Italy and France I can honestly say the standards of motorway driving there significantly exceed ours. I have not had the pleasure in Germany yet, but having seen German drivers over here I suspect they are courteous and respect others who may want to drive a little faster than themselves.

Mind you, the fog light thing does piss me off, there was a bit of that today. I just ignore it now and drive on with a smug face, satisfied that I'm a better driver than they are.

And similar to the lane-change thing, you get people joining the motorway and assume they have right of way. I did see a near-miss today where the guy in the left hand lane was toddling on at 70 quite happily, but didn't have anywhere to go as such, and this little clio just came beetling down the slip road and would have slapped the side of him, had the clio driver not looked at the last minute and seen him.

But *apart* from those, it was good! :D

To help you out 100m is approx 22 car lengths, so whether you can see the car in front is irelevent. Unless you leave more then 22 car lengths between you and the car in front, that is.

While I agree people that drive, in good visibility, with their fog lights on are stupid, equally if you drive in impaired visibility without them on your just as stupid IMHO.

Most drivers in the UK don't keep to the 2 second rule in good driving conditions, let alone extending that distance as visiblity decreases

I know - but I can honestly say that in almost 20 years of driving I can probably count only half a dozen times that I've driven in conditions where visibility has been impaired to the point when rear fogs have been necessary. And only one of those was not on a motorway. My point was that the majority of people put them on in any foggy conditions, just because "It's foggy" even though you can still see 100m in front of you.

yep i agree with all the above, its fookin roundabouts that fook me off, since when has it been that you dont have to signal going round a roundabout, and the twats who indicate to turn off 2 exits before their turn off? I always indicate and hope it gives other users the hint, like fook it does tho, all too bloody ignarent

Im affraid its all for 1 and all for yourself in this country now no curtesy here anymore

Carl,

I got one your goner lover then. Just followed a panda car onto one of Basingstoke's many roundabouts, I'm in the right hand lane 'cause I want to take the third exit off, the panda car is in the left hand lane. Twit of a copper goes all the way around and back the way he came staying in the left hand lane.

He seemed upset when he got a blast from my horns as he cut across me at the entrance to the third exit, no indicators either.

What chance have you got of other road user being pulled when even the old bill don't know the Highway Code

too true got no chance if no one being shown an example by the law. Everyone should re sit a highway code test every 2 years and suspended from driving untill they pass iti f they fail, and on the spot fines if they dont follow the highway code and get cought, then do away with the cameras as everyone will be driving to the highway code. When im in charge i shall bring that law in
