assume they're right, but have you found someone willing to balance them for you??

Better off going with a new CHRA - DTA in Holland do them apparently, but not sure whether they do one with stagger-gap rings... MTL also did a write up about using the kit - he obviously found someone to balance them tubs after!

Rich

this is deffinatly something best left to the professionals imo!

why? the only part that needs a professional is the balancing - end of. If you're fitting them yourself, you can kiss goodbye to any guarantees anyway.

£15? Doubt that contains anything more than a set of oil seals. What about the bearings? What about any impellor/compressor/housing damage? Not to mention 50% of the ones I've seen have cracked turbine housings around the wastegate. Turbos must be examined very carefully since its not only the seals that cause problems - most of the time its bearing play causing the seals to leak so replacing them will only last a very short period of time...

There are very very few turbo reconditioners that I will use. The place I use now has (so far, fingers crossed) a 100% success rate with NO returns. If you want their details PM me and I'll dig them out. Very reasonable prices as well!

Cheers,

Andy

Andy,

What do you think to TurboForce who GPS used to do my T28's?

I've heard a few bad things and as mine is still smoking a bit and using oil I'm rather concerned...

Chris.

Mine,s only been on a week but no issues so far

Thats who I use Chris - never had a single problem with them! I'd be very very very surprised if it was the turbos smoking after turboforce have done them! When is it smoking? Just after a few beers? ;)

Cheers,

Andy

No its putting out a bit of smoke when booting it and a lot of grey/white smoke from passenger side (mainly) exhaust when idling for a couple of mins after a good thrash.

Sometimes it goes away for a few days then starts really bad again.

Using a fair bit of oil too.

Wow!

Many Thanks All

- a lot to think about!- will be in touch Andy....

I enjoy doing most things on engines- this would be a first but I have a spare set to do @ leisurely pace.

The ebay kit is really priced @ £115.00 including postage which shouldn't be much- trouble is I havnt come across anyone else supplying kits although the odd member does say they have rebuilt their own.

Thanks Again Guys- any contacts/ info gratefully received!

Dave

£115 Sod that mate, think it cost me something like £25 each for the parts i got. and then £17 or so for step gap piston rings.

Sounds useful- do you have a source?

Gratefully

Dave

Here's a question for you.

Since my T28's were refurbed they don't seem to pull from as low down as before.

I'm sure they used to start to come in at about 2500 ish and now its more like 3500 so the lag is much more noticeable.

What would cause this?

No problem :) if you need a hand or get stuck, drop us a line any time :D

Yep think midland turbo's did mine. They re-furbed them with 360 degree roller bearings and they have been on a month now. Seem fine. Pull really well from low down.
