im thinking of taking the fan cover off to make the engine bay look better. what do you think????

Lowers the performance of the fan hugely

Yep, will have negative affect on engine cooling...... and makes working in the engine bay a little dangerous.

 

There are Replacment fibreglass versions that can be colour coded and Carbon fibre fan covers available

purpose is mainly to pull air through the whole surface area of the rad, without it the fan is pretty much churning away in free air. Helps keep your fingers attached too :p

Saying that mine is off atm, got lazy and didn't bother refitting it. Makes you think twice about leaning over it while the engine is running :p

It will be fine until you get stuck in traffic or leave it idling for long periods of time.

Mine was not fitted when i bought the Zed 7 years ago, never replaced it either, no probs todate and i use an Apexi electronic water temp gauge so i know temps are okay, in fact i once remember Jeff at Zedworld saying he noticed my car was running reasonably cool!

This is almost the electric fan or Viscous debate, simple answer is how many cars built since the late 90's run a viscous fan ? they all run an electric fan that comes on when required.

So in short, given the stock water temp gauge is cack... fit an aftermarket one and see how she runs, you'll spot the rise in temps right away.......if any :)

Is the carbon fibre cover a complete replacement or just a cover that fits over the original cover ?

mines just a cover but looks ace with my carbon headlight and slam panel covers

Just bonds on over the top of the existing and who does em ? ME ME :)
