external wategates are the kind of thing you buy because you need them, not because you fancy the noise. You're looking at TD0516g's before you get into external wastegate territory. At this level you're going to want forged pistons and rods, bigger injectors, bigger IC's, standalone management etc.....

Screamer pipes sound fookin awful anyway.

they do sound good and the zed (if its running them) has 2 so sounds even better :)

external wastegates would be quite expensive on a zed but you could have screamers pipes custom made, can't see the external wastegates making that much of a difference to the sound or the performance at stock levels!

where can i get the screamer pipes done and how do they work?

The only way you could fit a screamer pipe to the stock turbos would be to find some divorced wastegate downpipes and dump the wastegate pipe straight to atmosphere instead of back into the main exhaust. It will sound like shit though since the downpipe will not seal the wastegate and turbine sections fully so it will sound like your exhaust is leaking all the time...

A screamer pipe is simply the exhaust outlet from the wastegate. The wastegate is used to bypass excess exhaust gasses from the turbo impellor to control how much boost the turbo compressor is generating.

I'm pretty sure screamer pipes are illegal in the UK anyway and should be plumbed into the main exhaust system rather than dumping to atmosphere. I wouldn't like to think of the damage you could do either if you had a fueling issue and there were flames coming from the exhaust.... You risk setting your car on fire...

In other words, I wouldn't bother :)

Thanks guys wont b doinit now not worth the hassle

Thanks

hmm i dunno about that, the EGT is so hot that you could probably set fire to stuff without flames anyway :p

they look pretty hardcore in the presence of side exits, would look daft with side exits and regular pipes too though.

Is it External Wastegates that make a noise? i thought it was uprated Actuators that made the noise(kind of flutter sound)?
