A lot and even more getting it through the SVA....as you'll need a model report £££££££££££££££££££

 

Under normal SVA tests, the car can't be passed due to the fact that it has no model report and is younger then 10 years old.

Unless you cough up for a model report you can't. Not too sure on the proceedings, but you can't just import and register one newer than a 1996 model.

 

The reason Craig David's is over here is because it was brought over before the overhaul of SVA and import regulations.

i'm pretty sure there is no model report for the 300zx so near on impossible to import a 99+ one, there are a few around at the moment and there mega expensive!!

In case anyone asks, that's a Version S (no rear spoiler) Personally I'd prefer the Version R (picture at the top of this thread) rear spoiler, side skirts and Recaro seats :cool:

its nice but its alot of money, i would be very nervous if someone wanted me to import a 300zx that new/expensive, there is another one which keeps coming up for sale now and again and that ones a 2001 reg with 2500 km on the clock AND its been tuned!! running around 450bhp but that when it was up for sale was about £20k over here LOL i do like the type r's but they tend to be NA's

I believe you can get one in if its a personal import.i discussed this with a car importer ive been doing some engine work for and he reckons a loophole in the system allows you to bring over cars with no model report.and im sure the r34 skyline has no model report but ive seen quite a few at japfest.im 99.9% sure it can be done.recently a Top Secret 1000bhp r34 gtr was up for sale on flea bay and the seller said he could get the car in but it was gonna cost a substantial amount.

They've probably been in the country for some time maybe Jimmer....iirc, the new SVA rules are only about a year or so old.

there is a model report for the R34 but yes there is loopholes ie they have to put it to pretty much standard and even then there is a special exhaust system to pass our mot which is where the issues are, think it costs around £5000 to pass the r34 on sva :shock: and even then there is no gaurantee that it can be made road legal so its alot of money to pay out to sit on your drive way and cannot be driven.

That's what they do in the US actually. Some states don't allow imports if under 20 years old or something. Which is why there are practically zero 'liners being imported there....even though they are RHD, the yanks love them.

 

When I was in California earlier this year, I went with the LAZ32 guys to a few car shows that were on there that day and we ended up at one full of Japanese cars and one was a freshly imported R34GTR. The guy had shipped it to Texas where the import rules are different. Registered it in the US there and then drove it back to California. It was a simple case of transferring to California state plates with the DMV then. Easy peasy...but a bit of a PITA.

some people send them to germany 1st and get a TUV done with skylines, but that too is expensive. As kirbz mentioned, the r34 skyline has a model report and costs 5k for the preparation and sva test. a guy called ludders on gtr.co.uk did this. cos a 300zx its not worth it, i spoke with SVA imports who have the r34 model report and they said it would cost about 15k for preparation of the initial car which the report is to be based on.

 

not worth it unfortunately. but does anyone know about registering one in say, poland or one of them other new EU countries?

all i can say what a lot of bullshit who thinks these things up, if we made good cars over here then people wouldn't need to import. i know what they are doing trying to get us to buy rovers :rofl:
