Hiya people can anyone recomend which brakes to go for on my z32??

as you all probably know, the 300zx is an awsome car but the only thing it has problems with is stopping.

although the disks are pretty monsterous, it is a heavy car to stop!!

Im thinking of getting some 6 pot calipers and even bigger disks so does anyone know which ones to go for or the best place to get them from??

Im off to the nurburgring in march and need to get them sorted by then really.

cheers guys. :p

search, there are loads of options depending on your budget

A common and relatively cheap upgrade is using Skyline R33/R34 GTR calipers and disks as they are miles better and just bolt straight on with no modifications :)

If you're looking for something to stand up to the ring though you better be prepared to spend thousands! :o

Mine lasted about 6 corners before overheating!

you'll need 17" alloys though, or they won't fit :p

Speak to MickyB at Zworx. He is currently developing a Brembo Caliper and Brembo disc upgrade that will out perform the R33 set up. 18" wheels will be needed tho.

Went through 3 sets of disks and ended up boiling my brake fluid and flying down the pit-lane at Oulton Park on my handbrake and a prayer

Went for a set of 6 pot, 345mm disk AP Racing brakes, and never looked back - they are 'kin awesome! Never once had brake fade with them, on road or track, and the stopping time's about half that of the standard ones. They're the one the Skyline boys upgrade to. Had some hassle fitting them as they're designed for the skyline not the Zed (they may make some to fit now!?) but Lockheed kindly made me some braided hoses to fit. Best money ever spent on the Zed ! Definitely need bigger wheels though, 17" minimum, better 18.

I have 350Z front discs and my standard z32 calipers on home made spacers with yellow stuff pads OK from cold very good when hot.

As said. It all depends on how much money you want to spend. I am going to be fitting a set of Brembo R33 calipers disks and pads on tuesday. Has cost me around £800 pound so far. The only problem with the brembo calipers is getting them. It took me around 3 months to eventually get a set off ebay. It is a case of waiting and looking often. The disks on the other hand I managed to get a new set with yellow pads for 455 delivered. They are huge.

A cheaper option is to go for smithys big brake upgrade.

I haven't used it myself but believe that it is a fair upgrade.

You can fin it here.

You do realise they will probably cost twice as much as your car?

Unless you have some serious upgrades you don't need to go that far.

I've never had mine fade on the road and I drive like a lunatic.

Depends how many track days you intend to do.

I used the Porterfield carbon-kevlar R4-S pads from Smithy.

Far, far better on the road – no probs if you have to do several highspeed decelerations (german autobahns) whereas, with the stock pads, you could feel they were fading quickly under heavy use. The trade-off with slightly less initial bite when cold is really not a problem.

However, on track you would need more. Could only do a few laps then let it all cool. Finally stayed out too long and cooked 'em

If you're serious about it, I reckon bigger, vented (cross-drilled, grooved) discs, multipot-callipers and better cooling (ducting, or perhaps the bigger, open wheels would help enough) are necessary.

I decided it was too much hassle to upgrade the ZX for reasonable track use, so use a different car instead.

Have a quick look at Smithys recent thread, he's going to be able to provide a bigger brake setup.

Sorry mate - been off for a while.

No, they won't deal direct to the public :xxx: Got mine from Jonathan at Grasshopper ProSport that is no more, more's the pity!

Here's a link for their authorised dealers - http://www.apracing.com/info/dealers.asp
