Found that and although it's on an Audi (cough, spit) it kinda makes sense.

I recently put tips in my w/g lines but something isn't 100%. I think i'm getting spikes as most of the time it boosts to 14psi but some times it'll hit 16 and then it feels like the clutch is slipping :( Might also have a slight leak where i've cut and inserted the jets but need to look into that some more.

So now considering the merits of jets to reduce pressure in the w/g lines against bleed off some of the pressure, both results in less pressure reaching the w/g so higher boost.

(and i know that everyone rants about the virtues of EBC's but 1. they're too expensive and 2. I don't have space on the dash and 3. they're too fiddly)

Anyhow, thought the info in the link may be of interest.

Just an afterthought but isn't the wastegate itself a pressure regulator of sorts? been reading up about pressure regulators not opening until a certain pressure is reached so to keep the wastegate shut for longer and make the turbos spool up quicker but then thats what a wastegate does by design, right?

Do zeds suffer from "wastegate creep"?

I'm exhausted :(

Have you got the right chip in there? spikes are a typical problem with tips. if you can get a EBC your be doing yourself and the car a favour, i've seen a lot of ppl mount them in the glove box, alternatively get manual boost controllers which you adjust boost by hand and can be mounted under the bonnet

Interesting project, but ebc's are not that fiddly to install and can be mounted neatly where the clock sits, if you buy a profec b!

also known as MBC (manual boost controller)....was standard in the Renault 5 Turbos

Is another cheap alternative to an EBC and more acurate then boostjets, but has the same problem as boostjets: boost spikes

>> I think i'm getting spikes as most of the time it boosts to 14psi but some times it'll hit 16

if the spikes occur in cold weather then it's ok.

(you might want to get slightly larger jets though)

if it's completely random, then you have a boostleak and the jets are probably too small.

yes, but rare on standard turbos.

It sometimes happens on cars that have a fully open and free flow exhaust system.

Cheer Eric, for those people new to zeds, I walk backwards out of the door after meeting him:bow:

The only thing that worries me with Manual boost controllers is that, don't you need 2 of them? how can you be sure they are both set the same?

'T' the two lines together

Is that safe? I did think of that but then i thought there must be a reason that the 2 wastegates have their own vacuum pick-ups. If thats the case, i have a cunning plan :)

That's how everyone does it. Make sure you get the pipes as close to equal length as possible.

cool.

As soon as this man-flu clears up, i'm gonna do that.
