Autometer Gauges

Just got my Autometer gauges delivered from Smithy, does anyone know, which wires (colour and location) where I can tap into for the Light illumination,12v postive, and Earth? The gauges are being mounted in my A pillar twin pods.

Earth goes anywhere just about.

Depends on where you put the gauge but I use the 12V to the ashtray light.

What about the light illumination? On the boost gauge its got a bulb, so obviously I only want the bulb to switch on, when I switch my lights on. so what colour wire and where would I connect it to??

I found a post on twinturbo.net (I think) and it explained how someone had wired their gauge light into the the back of the right-side pod.

This is what I wrote down. Please check it before using this information as I accept no liability for having written it down incorrectly! biggrin.gif

Both connectors you need to connect to are in the middle plug. The positive is the red wire with a yellow stripe and silver hash. The ground is the green wire with a red stripe and no hash.

Which Autometer gauge did you get? Was it a 20psi one or a 30psi one?

I ask because I've had 2 of their 20psi Sport-Comp gauges over the last few weeks and neither have read zero when turned off (the first read 2.5psi and the second minus 1.5psi). This made them read inaccurately throughout the range.

I'm considering at the moment whether to go for yet another of the same and hope it's OK, or to try a 30psi version, which Autometer claim is more robust and less likely to suffer the same problem.

That's what I was on about.

Two wires to the light yes?

I goes to ground, the car is basically ground plenty of places to chose from.

And the other wire can be connected to the positive side of any of the dash switchgear lights or ashtray light etc which only switch on when the lights are on.

Jezz.

Thanks a lot guys for your help, Thanks Dave for the info on the coloured wires. I let you boys know how I got on. Dave I bought the 30 psi version, I've got another one I bought a couple of years ago for my old 300, but I didn't fit it cos I lost all the wiring and hose fittings for it. But when I had in the z31TT it was quite reliable an accurate over the standard gauge.

Fitted them successfully yesterday, Used the bottom plug of the right hand pod of the dash for the illumination. And used the colour wires as given by me by Dave. Thanks Dave. The boost gauge has been wired up and indicates a healthy 9 psi on full boost. The A pillar pod really makes the inside of the Zed really cool (Fast and the Furious stylee!!).

Going to Wire up the Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge on Saturday.
