Now, THIS is really fascinating, and humbling comparison as well – most of us never give it any thought whatsoever, but it's rather dazzling to see it presented this way.

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky.

It is more than 1000 light years away.

The universe is so vast it is not comprehensible by the human mind. It would be like an ant trying to understand the wonder of the internet. It can't be done.

The universe humbles us as it should.

Fuk sakes... how amazing is that!

Old info I had, shows how sad I can be when im bored!!!

lol. no worries. pretty interesting how small we actually are tho isnt it!

ffffffFFFFFFFFooooooookkkkkkkkk!!!!!

tis true tho - the human mind just cant picture how large the universe is, and how stupidly insignificant our planet is. kind of stops you worrying about things down here for a bit.

The universe is constantley expanding!!!

but if its never ending how can it be ever expanding? you can't expand something thats never ending surely lol

If point B is moving away from point A, constantley, then its ever expanding!!

Big bang theory, everything in the universe started from a single point in space and time!!

  • Author

The Big Bang Theory is the dominant scientific theory about the origin of the universe. According to the big bang, the universe was created sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter and in all directions.

In 1927, the Belgian priest Georges Lemaître was the first to propose that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. His proposal came after observing the red shift in distant nebulas by astronomers to a model of the universe based on relativity. Years later, Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence to help justify Lemaître's theory. He found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance.

The big bang was initially suggested because it explains why distant galaxies are traveling away from us at great speeds. The theory also predicts the existence of cosmic background radiation (the glow left over from the explosion itself). The Big Bang Theory received its strongest confirmation when this radiation was discovered in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who later won the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

Although the Big Bang Theory is widely accepted, it probably will never be proved; consequentially, leaving a number of tough, unanswered questions

yes it started but does it end, if there is a point b there surely is and end, its only the bit in the middle that is getting better

What is the point

Who give a flying **** anyway :p

I mean can it make me car go faster or wot

but if the universe is contantly expanding then what is it expanding into, its gotta have space to grow into.

I love books on this kind of stuff and even I cant give you all the answers so Stephen Hawkings and you lot have no chance

and the main question being what or who ignited the first bang, its like saying the lambert & butler ime about to smoke will be lit from a flame that is a distant relative from the first ever flame one way or another

Oh all right then

Here goes if I make an arse of meself so be it.

Gases floating around at random would hit each other and join to make atoms and particles and then grow into larger bits and bobs and then into planets and suns, (am I right so far?) So there must be edges to bounce off or you would loose bits as they drift into nothingness.

Bloody hell Neil I did not know youranus was that big I mean Uranus

Cue a Monty Python song ....

I was just thinking that.........

".......Remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving. Revolving at 900 miles an hour......

......that's orbiting at 90 miles a second, so it's reckoned, a Sun that's the source of all our power......"

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
