Ok hoping for a big compensation money in Feb time and also insurance is due for renewal and i want to buy a new car. Currently own a Honda Prelude 2.0i and am going to get the 2.2 VTEC but now my attention is drawn to the 300ZX. I definately wont be able to afford to insure the Twin turbo so looking at the N/A version. Looked on the net and there is thin info on it specs etc etc.

So can anyone tell me Specs about it like 0-60, mpg, etc etc and also i will be 20 in feb and have my 1st NCB...Whats is like to insure? Running costs etc...or am i just dreaming and wot be able to afford it.

Please help would really like to own this car.

Thanx Scott

Do some asking about. A UK TT will more than likely be cheaper to insure than an import NA. There is plenty of experience on here regarding insurance and qiute a few younger drivers who can give you a better idea than an old git like me :) .

I have an NA and absolutely love it. Not as fast as the TT, but I believe, more reliable. Lets face it, the 300zx is a supercar with supercar running costs no matter which model you have. Be sure to shop around and get the best you can afford and check out the for sale section on here you will generally know what you are getting from a club members car.

As for the specs, do a search and there will be plenty of info.

Personally I would go for the 2.2 VTEC. You would get a newer car, similar performance, probably far greater reliability and you already know about the car.

This is a very good point. However I was in a similar situation last year looking at preludes and various other much newer cars.

However the zed fit my wishes perfectly (targas, 4 seats, cool looks) so I ended up getting an NA.

And yes with elephant at least the import NA is more to insure than a uk tt. The insurance group for these cars are surprisingly low.

As for 0-60 times for an na they vary greatly from site to site and often dont say whether it is for the manual or auto.

I would estimate a manual NA would have done about 7 seconds with a stig and good conditions.

15 years later, on normal roads and with us driving I would say it would take us about 8 (stock).

Remember not to compare this more realistic value with factory figures of other cars.

mpg is roughly about 22 combined and is only marginally better than the tt. In terms of money the TT will hit you with the repair costs.

Having said that, if you buy carefully uou can get a mint tt or if you buy badly get a dogged NA.

I have an NA though and absolutely love it.

Hope that helps.

Al

careful you may start something!

When you buy one expect to spend at least the purchase cost again on it in the first year. If your finances stick to this rule you wont go wrong. DONT use all your budget buying it, believe me, you will have an expensive driveway ornament.

You may get lucky, but better safe than sorry, and if it doesnt break you will spend it on modding anyway.

Are N/A JDMs..i thought the non turbos where UKDM...Well anyhow am gonig to look around. The Prelude is obviuos choice for me at the moment since i own 1 and now exactly what to expect. Am going to look into the Z's though...

But it will still look like a prelude

I have nothing against Preludes but come on its a no contest.

I have a NA and have had no problems with it at all no unexpected

expense and at the moment Mate to be honest it really is a buyers Market

Good luck

Yep, the only Uk model avaibale is the LWB TT.

I dont mind preludes myself...but 2.2 4-pot FWD vs 3.0 V6 RWD, you cant really compare them even if performance is similar.

If running costs might be an issue an NA would be a good starting point and then sell up and get a TT at a later date if you feel the urge for more power, there is a much better chance of having lower running costs and you will learn a lot about the car to help you with the search for a good TT at a later date.

I have to say whenever I see the newer preludes (and I believe the 2.2 vtec is one of them) I do like the look of them. Theyve smartened up the back end a lot compared to the old model.

Good luck in choosing anyway. At least its a nice dilemma.

I chose an N/A due to reliability concerns and cost of maintenance and went for 2+2 as my Wife/kids may have to use it if her car is out of action (*shudder*). Targa is as yet an unknown quantity (only had it a month) but I won't be opening it up before summer anyway!

Definitely a bit thirsty, but that may be down to an enthusiastic right foot!

Ok well i do spend alot on petrol even though im a student..Oh its not the newer preludes that interest me...Iv got a 4th gen one 1995 and is the best looking and everything else....

Hi,

The NA is a good choice for your first 300ZX.I've owned a couple and I find the manual version a decent car to drive and quite fast enough in daily use.

Although lower powered than the TT, it still has as much HP as a lot of newer coupes on the market!

Specifications

3.0litre 24v V6

DOHC

variable valve timing

230 bhp

200 ft lbs torque

Performance

Top speed 150mph

0-60mph 6.7 secs.

0-100mph 18.6 secs.

standing

1/4 mile 15.0 secs.

They're some good stats for the na. where did you get those from?

Car & Driver original Road Test of a US spec 222bhp 2 seater....So a 2+2 230bhp JDM model won't be far behind and the 2 seater JDM model should be the same or faster!

Obviously after 15 years, these figures may be slower, but you can only compare like for like with other car's original road test figures.

Cheerz,

Jez

Ok been looking around on this forum and...it appears i might stand a good chance with this car.

Insurance wise i was expecting to pay around £1800...Does this sound right for a 20 yr old with 1Yr NCB???????

Also the twin turbo...it might scare me a bit...dont know if im ready for that..My car crash in June was very serious...broken knees, foot etc put total safety awarenes and paranoia on me... so might aim for the non turbo.

Iv also read these bring 23-24mpg...my lude is 26mpg so little diference.

Lets hope my compensation will be high for my accident!!!!!!!!
