Hi all, haven't been on for a while, usually just looking not posting.

Had no major problems as yet, until now!

Missus came home from work tonight with a worried look on her face, first thing she said was; " There's something wrong with the car, it made a strange loud noise at the back" .

So I had a look at it and the rear shock absorber has snapped in half

Anybody heard of this before? They're Bilstein shocks and I don't think they have been on that long mileage wise.

Anyway, how difficult is it to change and now this has happened I don't want to use Bilstein shocks again, so what would you recommend? Its got 35mm lowering springs as well, if that makes a difference to the shock you use.

fookin ell, never heard of that before there are lots of decent setups out there, tein being more favourable with zed owners

Did she say the wheel has changed to a square shape too by any chance? ;) LOL

Saw this on a Blistein before, did it break where the threaded part starts on the rod? Had just presumed it was bad fitting!

John Dixon..... now where have I heard that name before?

The shocks broke at the top, if you look under the rear arch you can see where it has snapped.

someones selling a set of lowered Bisteins on here at the moment...

God luck

Jack

surely you should write to the company about this before someone gets hurt or worse

You didn't know the guy from Guisborough I built a 16v 205 for did you?

Guisbrough eh? I'm just down the road. Who do you get to work on your car?

I would PM you but you've not subscribed

No, I don't know the 205.

Jonno - I do the work on my car, well I try! Surprised you haven't seen the car you can't really miss it :)

ffs thats not good. give me a shout if you need a hand. i changed mine dead easy, well compared to working on the rest of the car, it was!

Cheers Rich

I'll probably be giving you a shout some time next week.

Just wondering how I get a spring compressor on this!

next week you say................................................

i wouldnt say its easy but its got to be done to get the shock out i would have thought.

Stick a pic of your car up, I'll probably have seen it around.

The reason I asked about garages is mine could use a service but I'm reluctant to use a run of the mill garage for obvious reasons. It's always gone to Falcon or SE Nistek in the past. I'd do the work on the car myself but I'm not keen on the clown car look where the doors flap open and the wheels fall off.
