I know it would be silly and your own fault if you had no tax on the road, but thought I would let people know that a DVLA clearly marked transit is cruising chelt residential streets, looks like they will be clamping untaxed cars again

Sorry but no tax does NOT mean no insurance!

For a start you're allowed 14 days to renew and when my car is off the road for long periods I can change my insurance to a "lay up" policy that just covers it for fire and theft, not use on the road.

As for insurers having a get out clause of no tax, it's exactly that! - an excuse for them not to pay up for no other reason!

1, Your car may be road legal in every way, MOT'd, Insured and be in an accident caused by someone else but because of their archaic system unable to tax it in time they have another excuse not to give you the money you're due.

2, Your car is parked on your drive not in use, MOT'd, Insured, tax ran out but you haven't yet declared it SORN.

It gets stolen but because of insurance get out clauses you get nothing!

3, You may even have paid for 12 months tax but because of them ripping you off by starting from the first day of the month and being refunded from the end of the last full month, it's actually possible to pay for a year and only have a tax disk for 8 of them if you paid 6 monthly!

Does your car deserve crushing?

As has been said, they could only do this to drivers.

Any other non payment of tax you get a tax demand and charged interest on the backdated amount.

If you own more than one car or change cars regularly then the system fails miserably for the driver.

They should concentrate on catching people who aren't insured not whether they have a paper disk in the window.

My son got an £80 fine for not off roading his mini. He gets this despite the fact it has been in our garage for the last 6 months not insured taxed or mote'd. OK he should have sent off the form to say it was off the road but this is yet another law where the motorist is guilty despite the fact that the only thing he didn't do wsa send off a form.

If he had been caught driving it in that condition I would of had a go let alone the police but htis sort of rubbish dosen't help when you try to make them do things properly.

Don't it make you mad.

Darrell
