How to get a TT to 400 BHP

Hi,

Has anybody any suggestions on how to get an TT to 400 BHP, I would prefer the most cost effective and safe route, I would like to create a tuned but still user friendly car. I have been forced into acts of extreme perversion (involving satsumas !!!) just to keep the Bank Manager happy!

All the Best,

Mark

Air filter, exhaust, ecu chip and boost controller me thinks.

and a new clutch.

Cheers Vijay,

Thanks for your link, but I think it's just a pointer towards the Jap Convertible Club, which unless you can translate what looks like spiders squashed onto a page, is pretty difficult to negotiate.Do you think those moods would really give you 400 BHP or is it just a start?

Regards Mark

Mark,

The link is for a Yahoo club. I just thought it might come in handy as you sound like the only convertable owner here (BASTARD)lol

As far as I know this brings you to stage 3 which is 396bhp. I've done these and it has totally transformed the car. As I said you'll need a new clutch too. Mine started slipping within a week or so. When we meet up, take mine for a spin and see (after the brakes r done lol)

Vijay

do you want 400bhp flywheel or on the wheels, there is a big difference.

Plus remember you need to upgrade clutch if its manual, and brakes which ever way you look at it.

Thanks for the replies,

No cheers Vijay for the link, it just seems to be a Ghost Town Link and it just tells you to join the Falcon Club(that's what Japs call the convertible, just letting you know, don't get all menstral, LOL).

To tell you the truth, I would like to get it tuned but still be an everyday driveable car. I have driven a Z with a racing clutch and it's either on or off, no give, or are there more forgiving uprated clutches out there?

Buy mine!

Ian.

Ian, I would mate, sounds like an ace motor for the money, but I am bank managered up to the hilt and I have a convertible Z to tune up.

Is your Z a TT conversion? The convertible was only produced as an NA.

Hi Steve,

It is actually a NA at the moment, I am considering converting it and before I do, I would like to know how to get it to 400BHP which I might as well do with the engine out!

Still pondering as it only has 20k on the clock at the mo and it is in mint condition.

I have contacted convertible TT Z owners on the TT.Net and they say the stock chassis can handle 400BHP, I am trying to find out from them if they mean at the Flywheel or wheels.

Mark

To get an NA up to 400bhp you are talking about a lot of work. You are basically making the engine reach its limit for a NA.

I would turbo it first, get use to it. Are you going to convert the NA to a turbo or just replace it with a Turbo?

Hi,

No I would whack in a TT engine, gearbox, diff etc.

Mark

Hi Andy,

I am not sure yet trying to establish from the TT.net convertible owners, what they reckon rear wheels or flywheel?

Also I really want a driveable car, I do live in London and my only experience of an upgraded clutch, would mean my left calf would be the size of small house!!!

Thanks for the reply,

Mark

The Nissan Micra Ice Racers,in Europe use a version of the 300zx/Maxima normally aspirated engine which produces 400bhp!and that's without the use of turbos!

You would probably have to rebuild it after every long drive though! wink.gif

Hi,

Just found out that it is 400-450 BHP at rear wheels!

Mark

ok

I meant the convertible owners say it can handle 4-450BHP at the Rear Wheels, without Mods to the chassis!

Hey Mark, thought you might be interested in these magazine articles (link found on AndyPs www.300zx.org.uk )

http://www.aus300zxclub.com/magazine/reviews.htm

Nearly at the bottom is an article about the launch of the convertible which mentions a 400hp pace car special they did which forms the basis of the production design.

And right at the bottom is a back to back test between a 500hp targa and a standard convertible.

Cheers - Gio

Thanks Gio,

Just a thought- are you on duty this weekend? If not how about a non-alcoholic refreshment in a pub on Sat lunchtime? Come and show off your new beauty??

Hello Mate,

Still gotta get insurance on it, so would rather leave it a while, have to clear the garage of Z's and get it in there. I am champing at the bit cos the weather is good at mo, anybody know of anybody with garage space?

Will take a rain check on the offer though(scuse the pun)
