If you fit an aggressive chip then you will get more power but at the cost of possibly doing damage. As long as the car is in good order and you ensure you always buy good fresh fuel though, it shouldn't be a problem. TBH though I'd be worried about aftermarket aggressive chips as they're too close to the limit and all engines are not the same... What clutch do you have? Because if its standard you can say good bye to it ;)

cheers andy. so does the chip make much difference on its own? or do you need to up the boost aswell.

Chip on its own won't make much difference - it *MAY* make that extra bit of difference if you have intake and exhaust upgrades but I doubt the old 'arse dyno' would even feel it ;) The biggest change comes with the boost increase - and what a change it is!!! :D I'd go with an EBC rather than boost jets though, added advantage of better spool up so its not money wasted - the car WILL be quicker!

As Andy says an electronic boost controller is better not just for spool-up but also for control and safety. boost jets are incredibly cheap and easier to install but may spike on you when you plant the accellerator. the smaller the jet size, the more boost you'll get. common sizes are 0.8mm, 1mm and 1.2mm. the latter gives you about 12/13psi, the middle gives you 14/15psi, and the former gives you 16/17psi ( :nono: )

before doing any of that ...............upgrade the brakes / or service the brakes / put in upgraded pads , or all options together ,Porterfields are great , ( see Smithy in rader section i think he can still get them ) once the car stops properly then make it go better,

truer words wer never spoken ;) i was gona buy some red stuff pads any good?

is there much difference wen running at say 14 psi to standard boost. ive had a look at the car and found it has already got bleed valves fitted. is it poss that the car could hav an upgraded ecu? if so how do i check?

the car is the first ive owned and it did seem quick until the ptu packed in the other day. just had another fitted and the car seems to run alot better???

Yes there is a big difference but as duffman said you will need an uprated clutch as a standard one will burn out in no time ;)

I bought some EBC reds but found even they were not up to the task in the end (with boost jets, chip, bigger exhaust and intake). Don't get me wrong, they were very good, but after a few good hard stops had reached the limit.

As I am finding out! :slap:

Ferodo DS2500 pads are awesome - wish Smithy would sell these too ;) hint hint...

lol same here too mate, although unfortunately mine started going at J-Tuner shoot hence my shoite times   im half-way there tho - got me RPS street clutch, just need to get hold of a cheap lightweight flywheel from somewhere.... :(

LOL

Yeah my clutch slipped a couple of times on that Jtuner day too.

I took a mate out for a spin last night and I wheel spinned through most of first and the clutch slipped most of the time it was in second!

It's still in a good enough condition to drive it but launching it off the lights is now out of the question. :nono: Need to start saving for a new clutch!

Tell me Dave, do I NEED a lightened flywheel too or is it just another way or reducing the inertia?

well ive been told that if youve had a slipping clutch for a long time then the flywheel will have started to warp (or whatever). i think with upped horsepower and a stronger clutch it's probably best to go for an aftermarket flywheel. i might as well get them both done at the same time. ive also heard you can skim a flywheel but that sounds a bit dodgy to me, especially with these cars.

Dave I know of a second hand flywheel going if you're interested? Fidanza one with about 4k miles on it. Will be seeing the guy this weekend hopefully so can ask him if you want?

How long will a new standard clutch last with upped boost?

I've only just had it done and am now looking to tune the engine which is currently stock. Is it just old clutches that fail?

yes please mate that would be smart. do you think it would work ok with an RPS street clutch?

well mine lasted for about 18 months, although it was part of a 2nd-hand manual conversion kit so no-one knows the state it was in.

Will work without a problem mate! If you PM me your number I'll pass it on to him when I see him. I know its in good nick - I removed it when I fitted his OS ;)

The clock is ticking. If you do hard launches regularly you will soon toast it....
