hnmmmmmmm firefighters

Good luck bud! want to change job myself as I have to do this as I'm too much of a pleb to have a career, lol

do it best thing ive ever done, was a fireman for 6 years, you name it ive seen it,

keep practising on the bleep test style of tests, grip strength, and breathing. Brush up on your english writing skills and maths.

Press ups, step ups are all good. Look into the brigade policy and strategy. PM me if you need any help .

All the best with the career change :)

I have every respect for firefighters  The job I used to be in, saw me at quite a few fire stations and every single person I spoke to there couldn't have been more helpfull/friendly/whatever! If I did that job there's no way I could be like that! Ultimate respect!

and me and mowgs too. if you go tohere and have a look around you might be able to find some recruitment tests eg maths english tests and a guide to level of fitness needed.

it a good job but you see some really bad shit sometimes. can pm you a link if you like too a site with some of the stuff you might see to give you some sort of idea. but these are only pictures.

ok you don't see it every month but it does happen

dont think im putting a downer on it.

i really enjoy it so go for it mate.

hth graeme

cheers Andy :hyper:

cheers people, it means a bit off a paycut, for me but Im sat day in day out fixing pc's now bored out of my head :)

I can only try for it.... it'll all be decided on the fitness tests.

Im giving it 100%, thats all I can do. If I pass I pass :) If not more training and apply next year.

was an offshore fire team leader for 13 years and had all the training the real guys do , helicopter crash rescue , the lot !! even put out some fires ( proper fuel fed big buggers ) No fire engines in 5 minutes out in the irish sea ,so you have to be bale to do it yourself ! enjoyed every minute of it the fire fighters who trained us at montrose and chorley are a great bunch of lads , they knew we are limited andnot proper fire fighters but they did their best to get us to a level where we might just survive a proper incident ...all respect to the real macoy , no way i could pull kiddies and women or bits of them out of crashed vehicles ......try high inpact aerobics like circuit training

that will get the short term fitness levels right up , then boost it with long distance running for stamina ..

best of luck matey

its not all shiny helmets and big hose pipes though Hunnipie :)

Topless IIRC is a firefighter :)

he sure is when he's not sorting zeds....you can find his contact details in the Zen garage...traders section

You can get your fitness up quite quick.

I have not done ANY exercise for years and now I have started to do Rubgy and Karate again.

First rugby triaining session was a 3.5 mile run with an hour fitness session after. I stopped about 10 times on the run and after the fitness session I was struggling to even stand up. (I think pushed it too hard). I was so knackered that my girlfriend wanted to take me to the hospital because I was struggling to breath.

4 weeks later I did the run in 1 go, for the first time, and the training session after, although hard and tiring, I felt fine at the end with 10 mins rest.

Its quite surprising how quick you can get fit again.

And within these 4 weeks I can feel a lot of fat has gone from my waist and back, but I have put on half a stone.

I think it was 2002 when I passed all the tests for South Wales Fire Brigade. 50 of us got in out of 4000-5000 applicants!!! I was kept on the waiting list for a year to start on the recruits course but it was at the time they were having all the pay disputes. After telling me I was in and keeping me waiting for over a year I had a 3 line letter saying 'We currently have no positions available and cannot see any in the for-sable future please apply again'. I was fooking gutted and never reapplied but I have heard that its all been changed now and the fitnest tests are a lot easier. Good luck with it all mate

good luck jay, its not all about money its about job satisfaction too, and if you will be happier in your job as a fire fighter then much respect to you love all the hard work will pay off and age is no barrier. If you feel you want to go for it do it. It is better to have tried and failed than to have not to have tried at all and im sure you wont fail. Lifes not a rehersal!!

I tried for 5 years running to get in , kept failing the written tests ( thick panelbeater :D ) as already mentioned , tot up on your maths and english :headvswal , they kept saying they weren,t looking for accademics but the written tests were fooking hard , especially with a time limit to contend with , i hadn,t done stuff like that since school ! and even then i was crap at it :D

Wish you the best bud , it,s something i,d still like to do :hyper:

Im one too Jay ;) will dig up some info from Kent if u want it mate, just let me know, not too sure what the standards are now m8, last i heard the bleep test was lowering to become more 'PC' other than that, some top advice already given above :D

if i can help m8, just ask

p.s. 4 on 4 off = 2 jobs = lots of zed bits ;) lol

Go for it m8! I was a firefighter for six years with Oxfordshire fire service...(retained)...best jod i've ever done in my life!!!! tried for London 3 times....no joy! :( :(.....The very best of luck to you!! :)

right Jay done some digging and there changing the fittness test. The bleep test is going and it's going to be more job related tests, ie.

25 yards apart, carry a hose not running fast walk put it down*4

run 4 times

carry some other equipment 4 times over 25 yard distance

run 4 times

then 4 times with a bar bell weighing 36.5 kg????(what the fook h+s will av to say about that)

i will find out the definate test for you. soon as i can but you never got it from me ;)
