Question for safe & sound Bob

I have a Toad Ai606 alarm, are there any outputs on this to control external devices from the remote?

What I want to do is operate a solenoid to remotely open the drivers door so I can remove the handles.

Is this possible from this alarm???

Cheers mate

Hi Jay,

My Ai606 fires delocked central locking so there is no reason it couldn't be adapted to fire solenoids to do the doors.

Sure Bob will confirm one way or t'other as he knows everything.

Glen my man, got your springs boxed up.

Just got to get round to sending them, should have them out next week.

Mine does the central locking & I could easily adapt it for the doors, but I want to know if it's possible to tap into a remote outpt so I can do that on a seperate button. That way I can retain the normal locking on arm/disarm.

Speak to you soon mate wink.gif

Possible but the car will fail an MOT!

Can't remember the exact wording but it's something like 'visable sign of entry' i.e. it must be obvious how to get into the car.

What about the TVR's with the door release hidden under the mirrors, not exactly visible is it?

Will have a word with my karate instructor, his VW bus has no handles...

Nahhh, it won't fail the MOT. I've seen shit loadsa cars with no door handles over the years. What about the Alfas with the door handle hidden as part of the rear trim??? Wouldn't say they were visible unless you knew where to look. Especially as Alfa designed them to be inconspicuous in the first place! wink.gif

Just checked the manual that came with it & it can control a boot release solenoid & aux device.

Now I've found that it's possible, I need to know how to wire it, Ideas??

Okay, I should have looked up the details but in the MOT testers manual it states:

A lack of door handles because of original design characteristics or specialist modification is not a reason for rejection providing the door can be latched securely in the closed position.

But then it goes on to say that a reason for rejection (read failure) is:

b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle

Note: reason for rejection 5b does not apply to: front passenger doors if the door aperture has been permanently 'filled' as part of a specialised customisation provided that there are no obvious aperture gaps.

It is therefore at the descresssion of the examiner as to whether a solenoid operated door is capable of being operated from outside the vehicle. What if your remote is dead? You then cannot open the door from outside?

So, I was partly right - possibly wink.gif
