Hi guys i am almost at the point of giving up and driving it over a cliff! not really cause i love the bugger to bit's but it is driving me crazy, the problem is iv'e had a vibration thru my seat ever since i bought the car a year ago and i have been trying to fix it ever since,so far iv'e replaced the prop bearing, the gearbox mount, had zen garage check the uj's all good, had all the wheels balanced about 4 times, then finally thought it might be cheep tyres, so today had a full set of toyo's fitted and balanced again ,still there!!!!!had new hicas arms and hicas ball joints, the only thing i hav'nt done is prop balancing.is it likely to be that as iam a bit fed up with throwing money at the car and it's still the same even though i suppose iv'e got lots of new bits on her,had all the bushes and everything checked and everything seems fine, any idea's? thought of a one piece prop, but again be nice to know if that was the problem first before burning more dosh lol.cheers guys

Can you feel it through your steering wheel?

Has the prop gone back on correclty, i.e. in the same position it came off. If previous owner took it off and didn't mark it up, maybe that's your problem.

the washers on the mount for the centre bearing are spacers not washers. Check they have been put on the right way. I have a spare prop if can have if needed, it very worn but did not vibrate when it was on my car. My new single piece prop does vibrate tho!

no it only comes thru the seat

had auto/manual conversion done would have thought they would have sorted that

sounds like the bearing then

the one on my prop was fine but the rubber boot around it was split so would need replacing soon. You can have it as long as you are willing to take the whole prop off my hands!

at least you could confirm the fault before getting a new on

your new one piece vibrates! dont think i will go that route then, zen garage did the prop bearing so would have thought Martyn would know about the spacers.

yeah only a tiny but, its not quite balenced right yet - i will get there one day!

as i said have just fitted a new bearing,so cant be that,do you think it unlikely the prop needs balancing,as i cant think of anything else somebody said that sometimes the uj's in the drive shafts can give vibration but mike at mjp said they very rarely go,so i am stumped ,if the prop has been put back on and not alighned ,if i had the prop balanced would that sort it?the thiong is iv'e spent £8000 on the car in a year and thats not with buying it ,i cant seem to cure this simple problem.the joys of zedding.lol

thought the one piece props came pre balanced?

yup but the gearbox and diff are not perfectly aligined. the stock prop has a cv joint to counter this but the single piece doesnt!

Probably the 2 prop sections need realigning. When they did the auto-manual conversion they'll have just used a manual front section rather than both pieces. You need to rotate the 2 flanges relative to each other through 90 degrees until the problem goes away ;)

take the parts apart, rotate on the bolts and re-attach, if its not fine turn it again, and then again if its still a problem. If that doesnt solve it i would say get it re-balanced.

Andy beat me to it!

Do you think i should try loosening mine a bit, hitting it and tightening it again?!

Sorry? LOL

balancing props need a special machine IIRC not usually found in most garages...there are places who do it not surprisingly they are usually the kind of places who make props as well...:) however just try calling Martyn/Mark again and let them know its still being a pain in the ass :D

.........NO! :slap:

this may sound daft but i knew a guy with a bmw who had a transmission vibration and he spent a lot of dosh trying to erradicate it.it turned out a rear wheel had a spigot missing.

Are your wheels still spining true? i have a mate works at a type shop and i watched my old set (on there machine) and saw the buckles/ slight twists and he still balanced them ok but never quite got rid of a similar problem. Just an idea.
