Alternator repaired ! maybe a tip to us all.

Alternator sorted - loose connection on battery feed back wire, so it cooked itself, For me it was Dismantle & replace 6mm bolt terminal......BUT.

As the alternator is an open cage variety - the crap & bits in the casing & around the armature was unbelieveable. flies, feathers, dust, carbon & a shreaded wrapper off something!

Now its 14+ volts again, so if yours isn't? its worth a look & 30 seconds with an air line to clean it before you have to go to the remove & swear stage.

Cos i had to 'make' a long bent 15mm spanner to reach the back nut on it.

I repaired an altenator yesterday too! It was off our works Nissan Pick-Up truck. Not charging battery, so when charge was depleted, engine cut out. Rang round a few car shops and found they could exchange one for £70-£120! Robbery. Took it off, dismantled it and found worn brushes. Had a rummage around at work, found 2 new ones, filed them to fit, soldered them on and bingo! 14v charging again! All within 2 1/2 hours as well!!!

Didn't find any debris in there though! smile.gif
