1.Trying to get the front tension rods off but the bolts wont come out as they hit the intercooler piping.

Is there anyway that these will come out without having to move all the intercooler pipe work?

2. Trying to do a boost leak and im using a car air compressor, the ones you plug into the cigarette lighter. Anyway it won’t hold any pressure and I can’t hear any leaks from anywhere am I doing something wrong? Boost leak detector is on the intake pipe where the maf was. The car would reach full boost at about 4-4,500 rpm. Could hear the usual whistling noise associated with a boost leak.

Thanks

Paul

I have exactly this problem also !!!

As for the bolts, could you cut them and fit new ones the other way around ?

Is this the normal way for these bolts to be fitted or has someone had them off before?

Never heard of this problem before.

If you unbolt the other end of the bar can you bend it around to get some clearance for the bolt to come out?

Hi,

Been there - done that - assuming you have unfastened the other end first - you can then twist the rod so that the bolt can be squeezed out.

Hope that helps matey!

:)

with abit of "jiggeling" and "easing" the IC pipe over abit they will come out, as for the compressor, you need a half decent sized one with a fairly good CFM rate, them little things just wont cut the mustard im affraid.

So will it be ok to put the bolts in the other way round when refitting?

What sort of compresor? Any links to what kind to get as im thinking of buying one anyway. Want one that you can just set the psi rate and it will stop when it gets there.

I have a feeling that the bolts are shouldered and only fit one way. I didn't take mine out myself but I watched my local mechanic do it ad he had the same problem. I think you can also loosen the bracket that holds the tension rod that bolts to the chassis.

Oh yeah, and the compressor, you need a 'proper' one, not one of those battery powered things.

Small compressors are not worth it! Nu-tool do a decent one for about £300 - I have one and its an absolute belter! Will find you a link ;)

as andy says slacken the tension rod bracket or remove alltogether and out they come

Wot Greg says. Just undo the whole bracket and then work on the bench for the rest of the job. just done a pair yesterday like that. Dead easy. Off in 10 mins.

Done it. Cant believe i couldn do it yesterday :slap:

Also done boost leak test with a proper compressor. Found a leak down near the turbo. What a b@stard it was to get to.

So all is well again

Thanks for the help and advice guys. :hyper:
