I would imagine they meant the oil cooler.

You'll have to ask some1 else im nto a real tech head. But i dont see the point tbh, if its been running in japan for 10 years and the autobox is still fine then i fail to see why it cant carry on running fine, seeing as britain has a cooler climate that japan. Taking this into account if there was gonna be damage done it would have happaned allready. But then everyone recommends the cooler upgrade so go with it.

This is news to me. You sure they said pump ? What about cooler ?

sorry I meant oil cooler I have been told it is where they are restricted in japan and thay only ever sit in traffic jams but over here when you stay at hiish speed for a long time the box can get very hot.It may be a load of crap.

ive never changed mine and ive had it two years......if ure gonna do big motorway milage then maybe but its not a must do item at all

I have to disagree. All the stuff I've read indicates that overheating causes or leads to a significant number of failures in autoboxes (and a hell of a lot of autos go wrong). You will often find that when an auto is rebuilt the company either includes an external cooler in the bill or refuses to provide a warranty unless a cooler is installed.

Have to agree with Andy on this, before I had my external oil cooler fitted the area around the shifter would get very warm, now I can keep my beer on it wink.gif.

When I had my engine out and gearbox recon, I had the old radiator replaced. The new one came with an additional cooling inlet and this is going to be used as an additional oil cooler as recommended by the gearbox company.

I'd have to agree and say get an oil cooler fitted. My auto box had to be rebuilt because of overheating and it was midnight and I had only been cruising slowly at about 50mph for the previous hour after an hours break. (however I had been driving fairly fast earlier on in the afternoon). The parts alone cost £850 - luckily the warranty paid for it all including a new oil cooler.
